"A lovely, cosy cottage in a beautiful village."

9.0

The location, the front garden, the window seats!

A few minor issues (faulty lamps, outdated information sheets etc.) need addressing but nothing that spoilt our enjoyment.

"Building of the old cottage and its age lovely from the outside and sleepy village, bu serious issue"

1.0

Building of the old cottage lovely, and quiet peaceful village of Askham ,picturesque, nearby lovely walks and nice food in The Punchbowl.

Disgusting stained bedding, was bad. Plug not working, only one side of toaster working, loose toilet seat, chipped mug, one lipstick, inside washing machine rubber, filthy, shower mats stained, lights and lamp not working, fridge, water in bottom tray, bits of broken ice about. Tap upstairs sink, twin room not working either. We paid well over 800.00 a week for vile bedding we slept on, so unfair. Overwhelming smell of oil in house. Fridge too, rubber on door inside, grubby and black bits, in corners of the trays, had to clean before use, grill pan crumbs in it too.

"Great little cottage in a beautiful location."

8.0

Quaint, had everything we required for a 4 night stay. Nice that the host had left a little gift.

First impressions was very cold on entry, would have been nice if it had been heated somewhat before hand, given we had stated time of arrival.

"Great location, uncomfortable bed"

5.0

The location was perfect for a wedding at Askham Hall. The village itself is lovely with 2 pubs and great little shop. There were wonderful walks. The lounge was lovely and comfortable. Kitchen was a good size and had everything you need. The downstairs bathroom was modern and clean and the shower good. Plenty of hot water.

The main bed was so uncomfortable! The mattress was an old style sprung with mattress topper, so every time one of us moved the whole thing moved. I went to sleep in one of the single beds which was also uncomfortable but at least we weren’t waking each other up each time we moved. Sleeping separately for our 4 night stay was not ideal. The house smelt of paint (with a kind of creosote smell) which on arrival was really strong throughout. It smelt quite toxic. It lessened as days went by but still smelt. I think the house had been newly painted as it did look nice and clean and white. Heating is controlled remotely by the owner which was also not ideal as there were a couple of evenings and early mornings when we would have liked to warm the house a little but couldn’t without contacting the owner.

"Pleasant"

6.0

Location, peaceful, shop across road, pub grub within 100 metres but didn't get the chance to visit unfortunately

Not suitable for tall people. If you're over 5'9 be prepared to stoop alot or bang your head on the rafters and door frames. Cracked my head a few times. Not much can be done about that though. Could do with more regular deep cleans around the bath, shower, cobwebs, dust and a half eaten earplug behind the bed. Pans and cooking trays dirty on arrival. Nice place though cleanliness let it down alot. Double bed. Could do with a new one. And a new mattress

"Delightful stone cottage in superb village location."

7.0

Perfect location in beautiful village. Cottage was comfortable, warm (mostly) and what you would hope for in an old, stone building.

Oven could have been cleaner
