May Cottage

The house was beautifully decorated and furnished and very comfortable, set around a courtyard with other rental properties and outdoor seating. Access to Freesat (which we have at home) on the tv was an unexpected bonus. We appreciated having enough handwash, washing up liquid and toilet rolls supplied for our 5-night stay. The house is handily situated near the bus stops and a short walk to the Martonian Inn. After visiting RSPB Bempton Cliffs two days running where we were bowled over by the wonderful views of gannets, guillemots, kittiwakes and (with a bit more effort) puffins, we took the bus to Bridlington and back on the Saturday and enjoyed that too.

We had brought ground coffee, expecting a cafetiere, but the coffee machine in the cottage used pods which we didn't bother trying to buy. We had expected to find the farm shop, in the premises next door to May Cottage and the other rentals, open when we arrived around 4pm but it wasn't - its opening hours were displayed as 10-3. I tried to walk to another farm shop advertised in the nearby golf club but gave up when advised that it was a long walk and might not be open. Luckily we had brought a little milk and other essentials with us and were able to use small Post Office stores in Bempton and Flamborough to tide us over for the next few days.

The property was very clean and comfortable. It was also very well equipped. The location was perfect for travelling around that area and was quiet.

Nothing.

The property was clean. The owners were kind enough to let us arrive 1 hour early as the weather was so bad. The bed was comfortable.

The kitchen was poorly equipped. Only 2 mis matched cheap mugs and 2 very small coffee cups. Only 2 teaspoons!

No plug in the bath room sink.

Location great- perfect for two people.

There wasn’t anything we didn’t like.

The cottage felt smaller then we were led to believe, the dining table was far to small, wobbly and uneven. The bed mattress was poor quality. For self catering it was poor, example a new tin opener required an item that should of been checked before the next guests arrived. It felt expensive for the amount we had paid for what you got. Noisy road.
