"Beautiful but isolated location with good facilities but poor cleanliness"

4.0

Beautiful location

It wasn’t clean which was disappointing. Food on cutlery, sticky work tops, dirty microwave plate, dirty oven. One of the lounge blinds was broken and couldn’t be closed. Lots of dust in the bathroom on the tiles over the bath and on the shelf over the sink. The beds were clean but the property needed a deep clean. We complained but only received a refund of 7%, £25.

"Ideal location but needs improvements"

7.0

The barn was very spacious and very warm. Cooking facilities were very good. Decent pots and pans and good choice of essential utensils to choose from. Clean crisp towels and clean bedding. Although the beds are a little on the soft side. Can’t comment on the master bedroom bed as we slept in the twin beds due to dogs not being allowed upstairs. Our two sensitive dogs aren’t used to sleeping downstairs alone.

The barn was grubby and dated. In need a of a good clean and paint. Booked this break in January 2023 as an escape from the fireworks. We have two sensitive dogs who are petrified. We also booked 2 nights over NYE for the same reason. Whilst staying at the annexe I noticed the rates had come down dramatically to what I originally paid. I asked the host if she would honour the new rate for our NYE visit and she said no. That the higher rate was correct as it is peak time. Even though it was clearly advertised over the Christmas peak period as the lower rate. I showed evidence of this and she stopped messaging me. The rates then changed to the higher rate but have since changed again to a lower rate. The host seems to change the price as and when they feel. For this reason we choose to cancel our NYE visit. Found this to be unprofessional and felt we were being taken advantage of.

"Perfect location but feel disappointed"

Now for the negatives.. the annexe was very grubby on arrival. The worktops were sticky. Skirting boards and shelves in the bathrooms were very dusty. Cobwebs around the velux windows. The blinds are stained and look like they needed replacing years ago. Windows were filthy. The sofa and armchairs are stained and the rug in the lounge was covered in dog hairs. Our dogs do not moult so this wasn’t from ours. We took the rug outside and gave it a shake and the amount of fur and dust that came out of it was disgusting! I suspect it has never been washed and it would fit in a washing machine. The annexe needs a good deep clean and painting to bring back up to its original high spec. You are left with strict instructions to clean the annexe on check out. Hoover, clean the kitchen worktops, clean the oven too if used. Or pay £30 for a cleaner to do this. I suspect as most guests are ‘cleaning’ on check out, and some people’s cleaning standards are not up to other people’s standards, this is why it is grubby. We left The Annexe cleaner than what it was when we arrived! My Husband was even on his hands and knees cleaning the floor! We were also very disappointed that the beautiful gardens were actually private and no access was allowed to these. I booked this break in January 2023 and since then the advert has been edited and pictures of the gardens have been removed. At no point did it say the gardens were private and actually the small patch of grass outside the annexe front door is the only part you are allowed on. The original ad was very misleading and I suspect it has been edited due to other reviews mentioning the same. The small area out the front that you are allowed on is not fenced off so wasn’t safe for our two dogs to roam and toilet without going on leads. You have a small kitchen window that looks out to the private gardens. That’s the only view you have. The bedroom upstairs has a velux window so you can’t see the view.
