"Shippin cottage"

10.0

It was homely, beautiful views

For us, it was a little far out of town needing to take the car, not being able to walk.

"Comfortable, peaceful and spacious."

8.0

Lots of space. Bed in en-suite was very comfortable. Great parking and good location. Quiet and peaceful.

Some parts weren’t particularly clean. Lots of dust bunnies visible just under sofas and bed. However, this was the only slightly negative thing for us.

"Not as family-friendly as advertised."

6.0

The location was absolutely stunning and very peaceful. The cottage was warm, well furnished and comfortable. There was a folder with plenty of info about the local area, history and days out etc Not that we spent a lot of time on screens but the WiFi was free with a great connection and Netflix and Freeview Play on the TV was an added bonus. There were plenty of towels for us all and everything was pleasantly clean, the kitchen was well stocked with cleaning supplies as well. I agree that the accommodation is perfect for couples, young and old! I wouldn't say it was overly family friendly though.

We had to clear dog poo out of the garden the first day we arrived - we didn't have a dog with us, we did however have 3 young children who found the poo before we did! The photo of the garden on their website shows it trimmed back with mowed grass however, when we arrived the grass and surrounding shrubs etc were quite overgrown; also the website photo doesn't show the very steep incline of the garden. The grass did get mowed during our stay but the day before we left, I feel it could have been done the day we arrived as check in is quite late. The accommodation is advertised as child/family friendly, this is only based on the fact that they have a range of trikes/pedal cars to use and a playground - unfortunately the pedal cars were old and some broken and the playground was over grown with stinging nettles so unusable to us for our stay. There was a high chair and travel cot available to use however the cottage itself was not child friendly... stone steps in the living room, no stairgates, crockery kept at floor level, cleaning products left on the floor around the toilets, under the kitchen sink etc and the steepness of the garden. Both the showers were cracked and/or broken. The latch on the kitchen door is fitted upside down so we couldn't keep the children out of the kitchen. Although there were phone numbers left in the folder, we didn't once see or hear from the hosts. I didn't like that we were instructed to strip the bedding, wash up etc before we left. This is only a personal gripe, having been a housekeeper myself for 10+ years, I would do this anyway, but for the money you pay to stay there I wasn't expecting to HAVE to do basic housekeeping duties before we left, it should be left optional.
