Millers Cottage with Free Allocated Parking

The property was lovely, comfortable, clean and the location was perfect for us.

When we arrived the ground floor sash window had been left open (physically closed but without the latch on so that it could be pulled open from outside). It is behind Venetian blinds so not noticeable from inside. We didn’t notice this until we returned for a day out in York. We had left valuables in the properties and the keys to the car which was parked outside. When I contacted WelcomeLets to advise of this they told me that it had been left open to air the property, insisting that it was my responsibility to check the windows are locked before I left. Certainly I would do this if I had had the windows before open, but I don’t think anyone would expect to arrive with the property insecure. Also the policy booklet asks for the windows to no locked in checking out, but does not suggest they may be open on arrival. I had a few messages on booking.com with a member of staff and the manager, all telling me the same thing, but the issue remains unresolved/unsatisfactory. The manager left me a voicemail saying that she would offer a 15 percent discount if I contact them direct next time, that we couldn’t continue to message on booking.com and that she was in meetings so I could leave her a voicemail, I sent messages asking to continue toe conversation via email but had no further contact. So, if you stay at this lovely property check the windows when you arrive. And don’t trust WelcomeLets to be honest, upfront or apologetic if there is a problem. I was hoping that this could have been quickly resolved before I gave any feedback via booking.com. WelcomeLets please note that an “oh my goodness, we are so sorry” would have been far better than trying to pass the responsibility to your customers. Really slippery and disingenuous responses do not work for me.

We had received an email a few days before our trip to inform us of the key safe combination, parking etc and the full amount was taken from our account. After a 5 hour journey we arrived and the key safe was empty. We rang the mobile number provided and were told that the property was occupied by rentals and we had to take it up with booking.com. It was a bank holiday weekend and York races and we had to find alternative accommodation at 4.30pm on a Friday evening. They did offer an alternative accommodation however it was for 2 people and not 4. The alternative accommodation was not in the city centre. We are still waiting for a refund.

Beds could be a little more comfortable and a tad bigger

Location and parking on site were brilliant. Cottage was old but cute and cosy with a good info folder.

Location for finding the place via maps was wrong - we were taken to a school by one map and to a pay and display carpark by another - in reality it was between the two but it was difficult to find.

The location was good, having a parking space right outside the property was excellent.

The furniture was very uncomfortable, the front door does not close properly, the only way to shut the front door is to lock it with the key and with having two children with us made us feel very unsafe at night. And the kitchen really smelt bad, ( cat urine ) which did not disappear all the time we was there. The shower was also full of limescale which made the shower drip all night.

Great location

Perfect location. Very close to the centre but sufficiently out of the way to not be noisy. Very cosy and clean. Beds were comfy. Had it's own private parking which was great although people do have a tendency to block you in.

Property was very cold on arrival. Warmed up by the 2nd day (weather was exceptionally bad though). Heater in bathroom didn't appear to work.
