Hollyhock Cottage

We had a really lovely stay at this peaceful countryside cottage. It was wonderfully quiet, which made it a perfect escape. We especially enjoyed the wood fire — we were provided with a starter basket of logs and kindling, and liked it so much that we bought more to keep it going throughout our stay. It wasn’t essential (as the Hive thermostat kept the cottage at a lovely temperature most of the day), but it made the mornings really cosy, especially after the clocks went back when we were up earlier than usual — cuddling up by the fire was a highlight. We used the cottage as a base to visit family locally and stayed as a family of four (two girls aged 13 and 9). The bedrooms were perfectly adequate and both girls slept really well. The cottage was well-equipped and we were pleasantly surprised to find some thoughtful basics provided — tea, coffee, mini jams and honey, even small packs of cereal. The kitchen facilities were great; the fridge, oven and microwave all worked perfectly. Tip: for the oven, use the setting described in the welcome pack — it worked a treat! The host was also very accommodating — we contacted them to ask about checking in a little earlier than listed, and they kindly allowed us access 90 minutes early, which really helped us settle in. All in all, a well-equipped, comfortable cottage in a quaint and peaceful location. We would definitely return.

As I’m 6’2”, I found the bed a little smaller than I’m used to (I normally sleep in a super king at home), so it felt more compact. For most guests of average height, though, it would be absolutely fine.

Bettwäsche waren sauber.

Wir haben die Wohnung aufgrund der hervorragenden Bewertungen ausgesucht und waren sehr enttäuscht. Diese guten Bewertungen können wir überhaupt nicht nachvollziehen. Das Haus ist allgemein abgenutzt. Man merkt, dass seit längerem keine Investitionen mehr getätigt wurden. Der Teppich und die Sofas sind schmutzig, die Matratzen abgenutzt und die Küchenutensilien alt. In der Küche haben uns als Erstes ein schmutziges Backblech auf dem Herd und eine Waschmaschine voller stinkendem Wasser „begrüßt”. Wir haben uns gar nicht getraut, in dieser Küche etwas zu kochen. Eine tropfende Dusche und eine wackelige Duschwanne vervollständigten das Gesamtbild.

Sehr schöne, sehr geräumige Unterkunft in prima Lage, sehr gut ausgestattete Küche, gemütliche Schlafzimmer, sehr unkomplizierte, deutliche Kommunikation vorab mit den Gastgebern. Tolle Lage bzgl. allerlei Sehenswürdigkeiten in Kent. Wir haben uns dort sehr wohl gefühlt und können diese Unterkunft nur weiterempfehlen!

Amazing little cottage in a beautiful setting. Jo and Nigel have an amazing setup, and our two-night stay was exactly what we needed! Plenty of info available of the nearby environs. Short drive to Ashford for rail connections and links to all the places we wanted to see.

A great stay in this country house, everything you need and a nice location; we'd stay again.
