Amazing Host, good communication from start to finish, messaged us early to say the house was ready which was ideal as we had 2 tired children who where ready for a rest, kindly left us milk, cakes and sweets for the children which was a lovely added bonus as we had been in York from early that morning and was ready to have a drink 😊 Location was perfect we parked our car in Asda approx 10 minute walk and didn't have to use it again until we where leaving. There was a Sainsburys a 2 minute walk for any essentials you needed and York Minster was approx 5 minute walk from the property. Property was clean and tidy there where games and books which the kids enjoyed.

"Lovely homely place, fantastic location for all the sights."

10.0

Great location and cake on our arrival together with coffee and tea, felt very at home straight away.

Parking, took a while to work out where we could park although the host gave excellent advice but was so frustrating as we could have parked outside the property for the entire stay but maybe York Council could give out temporary parking permits.

"A nice home far from home"

8.0

Perfect location to visit the center, in a quiet side street. Several restaurants and pubs within walking distance. Very helpful host who confirmed very quickly we could drop off our suitcases in the morning. This was highly appreciated because so we had a full day to discover York. Thank you Louise also for suggesting to book a guided tour of York with the volunteers, it was very informative and added much value to our stay. In general, the communication with Louise is excellent! Thank you for the milk, tea, coffee and the other treats we found upon arrival. That's a very welcoming gesture! :-)

"Lovely cosy house very close to the centre of York!"

10.0

I feel the need to address the comments made by the previous reviewer regarding the “filthy” condition of the house. We stayed at the house the two nights immediately after the previous reviewer and I find the comments regarding the cleanliness to be grossly unfair and absurd. They appear to be a clear attempt to damage and undermine the reputation of the property and/or owner. The house is clean, really clean! The microwave does not have mould growing on it. The microwave is spotless and would pass for a brand new microwave. Every room was as clean as you could wish for. Maybe there was a bit of fluff under a sofa or a crumb under a cushion but I wouldn’t know as it’s not something I would want to go looking for. The house is on a lovely quiet street and is just a few minutes walk away from the centre of York. No street parking but there is parking available at the Black Horse pub a minute walk away which charged us just £10 for 48 hours. We arrived in York earlier than our check in but Louise, the owner, very kindly advised us that the property was ready and that we could check in early at 1:30pm. When we arrived at the house we were delighted to find a bottle of wine and a cake there to welcome us. Also a pack of sweets on the bed for our little 4 year old was a lovely touch. The house has everything you need - clean fluffy towels, spares in the wardrobe, shampoo, hand washes, washing up liquid, tea towels, plates/bowls, glasses/mugs, cutlery, kettle, toaster, kitchen roll, hairdryer, dry shampoo, WiFi, smart TV, iron, washing machine, washing line etc. We had a lovely stay in York and we would have no hesitation in staying at this house again in the future.

The only issue we had during our stay was regarding smoke alarms. We could only find a working carbon monoxide alarm and no sign of a working smoke alarm. This was a major concern to us and we raised this with Louise immediately. The issue was resolved privately and we now know that are smoke alarms both downstairs and upstairs.

"Awful, stressful, dirty and unsafe."

1.0

Nothing. Awful.

Everything could have been better, predominantly the safety and cleaning. Absolutely the worst place I have ever stayed. Safety & cleanliness are completely disregarded and overlooked. One smoke alarm in the property which isn’t fit for purpose or meeting regulations in any case. I notified the owner immediately, stating we’d tested the alarm function and it wasn’t working, she owner outright lied to me by telling me the alarm was only six months old. The discolouration of the plastic told me otherwise. We removed it to check and found not only was there no battery, the unit should have been replaced by 2019. She said she would “bring batteries on Wednesday” which was when we were checking out. There should be an alarm on every floor but this was the only one. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the place is absolutely filthy. I’ve never stayed anywhere so dirty. There’s no way I could cook a thing in that kitchen. I wouldn’t even use a cup. There was a pubic hair in the fridge (on arrival, we stored nothing in it aside from yoghurts and milk), mould growing in the microwave, a plethora of filth in every corner, dirty light switches, a rug and cushions so full of dust my kids had to take antihistamines, (we had to shake them out in the street and roll the rug up) it was full of crumbs under the cushions, a filthy fan in the bathroom. Again, not meeting safety regulations the light bulbs in the bathroom are exposed and not covered as they should be. Spent an absolute fortune eating out the entire stay due to not wanting to cook OR eat there whatsoever. The house is also littered with passive aggressive notes everywhere. Absolutely nothing of use or importance in the “welcome book” where you’d expect the rules to be, but instead shoved in your face everywhere you look. All the while being absolutely minging dirty. Such a shame our one “holiday” this year has been completely ruined. Not relaxing, extremely stressful and left us worrying for our safety.
