Kiyomizu Shukuba

We had a very positive stay overall, mainly thanks to the host, who was truly exceptional. From the moment we arrived, she took a lot of time to explain everything in detail, from how the house works to practical tips for getting around Kyoto. She even lent us a mobile phone with a working local line and internet, which was incredibly helpful for emergencies and daily navigation. On top of that, she shared great local recommendations and kindly gifted us night entrance tickets to a temple, which made the experience feel very special and personal. The location is one of the strongest points of this place. It is perfectly situated, very close to two of Kyoto’s most famous traditional streets, and extremely convenient thanks to nearby bus stops. Getting around the city was easy. There is also a washing machine available, which is very practical, especially during a longer trip.

Nothing bad or nothing to dislike, jsut take into consideration: The price is quite high. It was one of the most expensive accommodations we stayed in while in Kyoto. While the house is beautiful, very typical, and the location is excellent, we were only two people and the cost didn’t really “dilute.” The space can host up to four guests, and I think it makes much more sense value-wise for a small group or family. It’s also important to note that this is not a hotel. It feels more like having an entire place to yourself, so you shouldn’t expect daily hotel-style room service. The accommodation follows a ryokan-style setup, with futons and everything arranged close to the floor. If you are used to Western-style beds and furniture, this can feel quite different and sometimes less practical, as most of your belongings end up on the floor and there is a lot of sitting down and getting up.

Lovely apartment, really well laid out, the beds are amazingly comfortable, fantastic communication from the host and lots of tips for exploring the local area.

Location location location! Beautiful property in the most magical spot! Chika our host was so thoughtful and helpful. She went out of her way to make our trip enjoyable. Highly recommend this property and would definitely book it again when we return!

Amazing apartment! Chika-san is a wonderful host, and created a real home for us in Kyoto. Her breakfast is delicious! The apartment is perfect, clean and well-equipped. The area is perfect to explore the Eastern part of Kyoto on foot and very calm in the evening. Absolutely recommended.

We had the most exceptional and wonderful stay at the Kiyomizu Shukuba! Chika-san went out of her way to help us with everything and we absolutely recommend her recommendations! ;-) The apartment is very clean and comfy and Chika-sans breakfast is so yummy. Our best stay in Japan 10/10!

This is a beautiful, quiet place in the heart of a busy and historic part of Kyoto. It’s a perfect base for exploring, and a comfortable and calm place to return after a long day. Chika is a wonderful host who is warm, thoughtful and very helpful. Her breakfasts were some of the best meals of our trip, and all her suggestions for seeing Kyoto were excellent. We would definitely stay again.

Great stay in Kyoto! The location was excellent, everything was spotless, and the beds were very comfortable. I appreciated having a washing machine available. Chika is probably the best hostess we’ve ever had. She met us upon arrival, explained all the rules, and provided a wealth of information about Kyoto. She even left water and fresh fruit for us in the fridge. We couldn’t have wished for a better hostess. I would absolutely stay here again!

Chika was the best host we had on our stay in Japan and really went above and beyond to help make our stay perfect. The apartment was just beautiful and in an excellent location right in the heart of the old town and very close walk to the Yasaka pagoda. The welcome book was comprehensive with all the information you could possibly need for sightseeing, restaurants, attractions, ways to get around etc and Chika’s attention to detail (such as English labels so you can easily figure out how to use the washing machine, toilet etc) made our stay extra special.
