1. $300 a night is extremely high for what we got. 2. We have experience with Futon's and this Stay's futon's were extremely soft and uncomfortable 3. The kitchen was not supplied with coffee, tea or small milk as it should be for being a "Stay" and in a residential. 4. After a day of touring the area, I contacted the host to see if there was coffee at the Stay for the next morning. He said they ran out and asked me to pick some up. Mind you, the Stay is in a residential area and not convenient to any stores. We walked to 2 places to find coffee.

The most beautiful traditional Japanese home. Has everything you need and more. Our host was so friendly and welcoming. Our family of 4 had a great time.

The fireplace would be a positive for most, but we didn't use it due to safety concerns with a toddler around.

The location of the house was in a residential neighbourhood in the suburbs of Nagano city, so it was very quiet and quite safe. Access to the house was quite easy from Kirihara station (approx. 7-10 minutes on foot). The house itself was spacious, the kitchen was well equipped, and the futon beds were comfortable. The owner was very friendly and helpful (he spoke English and Italian on top of Japanese), and as he is a wine connaisseur and importer, we were also able to buy and taste some excellent wines during our stay. The owner also provided us with coffee, herb tea and apples (locally grown).

There are no convenience stores in the immediate vicinity, and the nearest restaurant recommended by the owner was about 10-15 minute walk. So, one should buy food in advance, particularly any breakfast items (bread, butter, etc.). The main station of Nagano city has a lot of cafés, shops, etc., but one can ask the owner for recommendations. Also, if travelling by train, one should check the train schedule of the Nagano Dentetsu line in advance, as there aren't many trains that stop at Kirihara station.

Kei’s place is his family’s traditional Japanese home, and we were blessed to be able to stay there. It’s located in a quiet neighbourhood but you can reach all main streets by train as the stops are all located nearby. The wooden architecture of the house and the surrounding garden give it such a dreamy appearance, a fireplace, traditional futon bed and perfectly equipped kitchen for tea and coffee invite the guests to unwind and enjoy the peace. On top of this, Kei himself is as impressive as his grandparent’s place. Not only he welcomed us making us feel like we were returning home, but on our last night there, he brought all the ingredients for Okonomiyaki and made dinner for all of us. The whole time we felt like we were old friends, and it’s a beautiful quality Kei holds. We will never forget our time at Maison d’hôtes, and we are forever grateful to Kei whom we hope to welcome soon in Germany. On this note, Kei is not a host, he’s your friend.

Kei was so welcoming and helpful. The house is absolutely beautiful and allows for a serene experience just outside the bustling city of Nagano.

Everything was great. It is an old traditional Japanese house. very cozy. Kei, the host, was unbelievable nice and helpful. He even left some fruits, vegetables and other snacks for us. the house is very beautiful, a lot of space, kitchen is very good equipped if you want to cool yourself. we loved it and would always come back. thank you!
