"Pleasant"

6.0

The location is wonderful, only a 10 minute drive into Hereford and a 5 minute drive to two good pubs which are dog friendly. The cottage is spacious and was clean. The surrounding area is just countryside so it's very pretty. Good value for money

The cottage is tired and lacking in some facilities which could make it so much better. Two cold leather sofas which could benefit from some throws of an evening, some board games maybe, a dvd player or at least Netflix, kitchen cutlery old and flaking, no kitchen roll, foil or cooking oil, the whole property seems a bit sparse and could do with a few ornaments or nice pictures to jolly it up as it feels quite unloved. The outside courtyard is not suitable to let your dog off as it is also shared with the other properties and so this is quite misleading. Especially if you have dogs who don't mix well with others or if you don't want someone else's dog running up to you when you're sat having your morning coffee on the very tired rickety patio furniture. I would stay here again because of the location but I'd bring all of the above mentioned with me, and a sleep mask as the curtains are useless.

Location was amazing.

The mattresses were basic and not comfortable. The chimney needed cleaning leaving a very overpowering smell of soot in the house. Thicker quilts needed to be available.

"pleasant and unusual stay to conduct business locally"

6.0

unusual building with a lot of charachter

slightly tired furnishings and bathrooms but given the price, not too bad. Kitchen facilities could be better. It took me a long while to figure the oven hob settings which have no markings.

"Beautiful location, great value for money"

Beautiful old building, decor to match. Quiet location yet easily within reach of Hereford. Great value for money. Providing logs was a nice touch.

Welcome pack would have made things a little easier - wifi, cooker operation, central heating controls

"Awful experience and utterly rude and aggressive host. Just dreadful."

1.0

Nothing. This experience was awful. We have stayed in numerous hotels and I stay in hotels for my work and we have never made a complaint in all the years of using Booking.com or other hotel search websites as we are reasonable people with realistic expectations but this was a first. I have rated Lavender Cottage 1 star as it does not give me the option to rate it zero.

This review is based on our personal opinion and experience of the property and the host and is 100% factual. It is not intended to be libellous. We have since contacted Booking.com to complain who recommended we provide honest feedback. This is our feedback. Lavender Cottage is a self contained cottage located in a small courtyard at the back of a much larger main house and is part of a complex with other similar type cottages. We arrived at the cottage and entered via the key in the key box. As soon as we entered, we were met with an overwhelming presence of smoke which we are told is from the open fire used by the pervious guests. We opened the windows and left the door open to help air the cottage but after 10-15 minutes, our clothes were smelling of smoke and our eyes and throat were sore from the irritation. The furniture and general state of the interior is tired looking. Jaime arrived (the hosts assistant) and we explained the cottage was unacceptable and we couldn't stay in the property due to the smoke. Jaime spoke with the host who was in the main house and we were offered another cottage which was larger and more expensive but we could have it at the same rate as the smaller cottage. As we walked across the courtyard, the host arrived speaking to us in a rude and aggressive tone telling us the smoke was to be expected and the cottage was a good standard for people with dogs and workers. We explained that people with dogs and workers should not have a lesser standard. The host continued to make sarcastic remarks and was rude again stating our dog was nice but we were not. It was at this point we politely said this was completely unacceptable and we have never has such an awful and very uncomfortable experience. The host walked off muttering expletives and we informed Jaime we would contact Booking.com. FYI - we then stayed at The Green Man in a dog friendly self contained cottage which was far superior and for £30 a night less than Lavender Cottage.

Quiet location. Large, spacious house. We were able to control the temperature with the thermostat, so we were lovely and warm and the water was hot. Comfortable beds and pillows. Overall it was a comfortable stay.

First impressions were not great, as the front door had cobwebs at the top and dead flies. The smaller bedroom had several flies inside the window. A little difficult to open and lock the door. The decor and fittings were tired and carpets were stained. The shower head is very small. No extras in the bathroom, such as handsoap or shampoo
