"Lovely house in stunning village"

10.0

- Very good location, short walk to shops and restaurants in Painswick, which is a really nice village. - The booklet designed by the owner is great - it contains all the essentials and recommendations. - We spent half day in Stroud (the French restaurant Juliet is amazing) and then went for 8k walk in the afternoon, which was lovely. - well maintained house and super clean - Love that hair conditioner is also provided and towels were soft

- It would be lovely if small things can be provided: milk, kitchen rolls etc, given there is only one small grocery store in the village. Supermarkets are less than 10mins drive away near Stroud. - It is not designed for serious cooking if that’s your plan; there is no extractor fan… - a couple more hangers would be handy. - the mattress in the bedroom (without the bath) is a little too soft for my parents, but it is down to personal preference. - Conscious this is to do with the structure / layout of the house and the owner cannot do much about it: 1) soundproof is poor in the bedrooms, any movements in the kitchen or in the other bedroom can be heard clearly. 2) the ceiling on ground floor feels low but should be fine for most. If you are taller than 190cm, it may be a challenge. 3) only one toilet and is downstairs. 4) the toilet seat is a little high so may not be kids friendly.

"Headline: Health and safety nightmare – Ant infestation and unresponsive host Rating: 1/10"

The location

Headline: Health and safety nightmare – Ant infestation and unresponsive host Rating: 1/10 Our "luxury" 2-night stay lasted less than 5 hours due to a severe ant infestation. We found ants throughout the kitchen cupboards and living areas; they were even crawling on our 11-week-old baby. When we reported this emergency, the host was completely unresponsive. For the health and safety of our infant, we had no choice but to abandon the stay and drive 2.5 hours back home on the same day. In the days following, the host showed zero accountability and was unapologetic, dismissively claiming ants are "common in the countryside." They offered only a disrespectful partial refund, meaning we paid a significant amount of money for a property that was uninhabitable due to hygiene issues. This has been a deeply upsetting experience. I strongly advise families to avoid this property.

"Disappointing stay and poor communication"

4.0

The cottage is in a nice area of the Cotswolds and the building has the charm you would expect from a Cotswold property.

We booked this cottage as a special two night birthday stay and were really looking forward to it, however the experience was unfortunately very disappointing. On arrival there was no welcome pack at all, not even milk to make a drink after a long journey with our toddler and dog. As it was dark we then had to walk into the village to buy basic items. More concerning was the travel cot. One had been left out as requested, but there was no mattress or padding and this had not been communicated in advance. As a result, our toddler had to sleep on folded blankets which was far from ideal. The most frustrating part was the lack of communication. I messaged twice and called twice during our stay but received no response until checkout. When travelling with a young child, being able to contact the host if there are issues is really important. We were completely left to fend for ourselves while we were having issues. When we did eventually receive responses afterwards, they felt quite generic, like talking to a chat bot. We also found woodlice in the bedroom, crawling in the towels. We have stayed in many cottages in the Cotswolds and part of what makes those stays special is the level of hospitality and responsiveness from hosts. Unfortunately this stay did not reflect that standard.

Great location - Painswick is very pretty. The cottage was cosy and well equipped.

There was no table to eat at.
