The Arches, Borthwick Mains Farm,

The property is really spacious and comfortable, we felt very at home. The host was friendly and communication was excellent. The area is beautiful, incredibly peaceful and a relaxing place to come back to after spending the day in the busy city. On a clear night the view of the stars is stunning as there is no light pollution to spoil it. The parking at the local train stations is free - Gorebridge and Newtongrange both a short drive away, making for an easy journey into Edinburgh. We enjoyed a lovely meal at Gigi’s Italian in Bonnyrigg on our first night and enjoyed our time exploring the city.

We had an enjoyable stay overall and nothing we didn’t like - it’s just worth noting that it can get muddy at the front of the property so be sure to have suitable footwear!

We where attending my Sons wedding at Borthwick Castle and this venue was perfect to stay the night before ! Phil was very helpful and allowed us to stay past our leaving time in order to coincide with the arrival at the Castle. We went into Edinburgh for the early part of the evening by train and left the car at Gorebridge Station with no problems. When we came back we went to Stobsmill pub! What a lovely group of people who made us feel so welcome and the lovely bar staff got us a taxi back to the Archers ! All in all ! A lovely stay. Thanks to Phil .

It was quite a distance from the station ! Hence we had to drive and leave the car at the station luckily we had 2 cars so we could go and pick it up the next day ! Water pressure on the showers was a bit low !

Superb location and views, easy to get to and easy run into Edinburgh via train (from Gorebridge) or car. Phil was excellent host, would recommend.

Quality property and accommodation which had a homely and comfortable feel. Very spacious and well equipped. Arrived in the middle of stormy weather but despite this the house was warm and the double glazing ensured we had a tranquil and restful weekend despite the weather. Sunshine bathed the property on our last morning and provided a real feel of the potential for balmy summer days (weather permitting) Really handy for Gorebridge station and rail trips into Edinburgh which was one of our reasons for choosing the property. Plenty of options for meals and shopping within 10 to 15 minutes of the property.

the road to this house is very narrow. Driving on it needs to be very careful.

The house was absolutely beautiful, the pictures don’t do it justice! It was so spacious and every little detail had been thought about. The utility room was fantastic, the kitchen had everything we needed, there was a high chair and travel cot for the baby, the lounge was so spacious and beautiful with the big arch windows letting the sunlight in, the bedrooms were beautiful too and there were 3 bathrooms which was perfect to give everyone their own space. The hosts had left us some lovely welcome gifts and were there if we needed them at all. The best part for us was the location being in the most beautiful countryside, near the beaches but also a short train ride into Edinburgh which meant we didn’t have to worry about driving or parking in the city. I couldn’t recommend enough!
