Tan-yr-Ogo Gate Lodge, Gwrych Castle

The Gate Lodge at Gwrych Castle is very unique and it feels like you are living in a medieval castle. The main bedroom has a 4 poster bed and all the furnishings throughout give it this medieval feel . It is also very private as the main gates are locked . There is a nearby forest walk which takes you to caves and next to them are vertical rock faces for rock climbing .

Nothing really apart from every time you enter or leave the property you have to unlock the main gates .

Great location, close to all amenities, host was very polite and helpful

There is nothing to dislike

Excellent for exploring the old castle, and in a nice ares of Wales.

Lower floor had poor toilet facilities and the upper bathroom was difficult to reach

The uniqueness, the location and the size of the property inside and out.

I know it’s an old castle building but the cleanliness could’ve been improved a little with more vacuuming or the webs and the bedding a bit more better quality and perhaps white in colour. Sharing the grounds with other visitors who rent the gothic bedroom felt a little intruding at times. (Although we knew this was to be expected, we wasn’t sure what was shared)

Unusual property with lots of history, restored to a very high standard, comfortable & cosy, plus all the mod cons needed to make it a home from home.

The location was spectacular, the grounds were lovely and spacious and enclosed.

That someone stayed in the Gothic room on thd 2nd day and had a very large dog that they let run free which restricted my 2 year old grandson from freely playing out. The dog was biting the rope swing and was on the trampoline. The idea was that we loved the enclosed space and it couldn't be enjoyed as much as we would have liked.

Good location for our needs

Felt damp. Lots of extension leads in kitchen/diner. Overgrown garden with thistles and brambles. Open storage, work area. Not suitable to leave children outside, although this was mentioned in the book inside the property, if we'd known this we wouldn't have booked. Random car in the gated grounds. We were uncomfortable as we didn't know if someone was there! Paid for two nights left after one . Very disappointed
