Downs Gate Cottage

The location is perfect, we have family in the local area that we were visiting so it was less than a mile away from where we needed to be. Loved the ambience of the property, it was a very comfortable stay.

Our first night was a bit chilly and the fire didn't seem to work properly, but we managed in the end by putting it onto a lower setting. The stand alone shower doesn't drain well and the shower tray filled up very quickly with water, which we didn't want to risk it overflowing so it cut down the time to shower properly. Other than that it was clean and comfortable and the hostess was very accomodating in bringing over a parking permit for one of our cars.

The location

The cottage was OK, but the cost was for a high end property and this was def not high end and we felt it was grossly overpriced. Things like creaky beds and water stains really let it down.

The property should have more facilities like more kitchen stuff, more organised cleaning materials like a vacuum cleaner, broom was dumped as a pile could be more organised.

We feel that it could be better to clean up, but in the end, we like it.

The location was wonderful -- only a short walk to the beach, the South Downs Way, the Eastbourne promenade, Helen Gardens, and the Meads Village shops. There's also an Eastbourne Sightseeing bus stop very close by. The cottage itself was clean and comfortable -- a great base for exploring!

Great location, everything incl. Shopping, beach and beachy head is in walking distance. Everybody was friendly, Internet outage was taken care of imediately.

Great location for South Downs way, Beachy Head etc. Nice local pub with good food. Quiet location. Good sized cottage.

Back yard was scruffy and not really somewhere you would want to sit out in. Main bedroom bed was quite uncomfortable, bed was short (if you’re over 6 ft) and a very noisy boiler came on during the night. The WiFi was very poor. Even after the agent had reset the whole system it was still very temperamental connection. Oven controls weren’t great, the knobs came off and the settings had been worn off. The complimentary milk pods for coffee and tea were out of date and sour.
