Monchique Islet View House T1

This is an ideal location for a couple wanting a quiet break in an interesting location. Flores exceeded our expectations and we loved touring from Faja Grande as our base and ending each day walking down the hill to watch the sunset. This is an interesting property that has been adapted well for a short stay like ours - we were very happy with our 4-night stay. The local link contact (thank you Veronica) was contactable through WhatsApp and helpful for our check-in and check-out requirements. We did simple self-catering for our stay though other options would be available in the village or nearby. The apartment was comfortable, and everything worked well enough. I'd say that hiring a car is essential.

To say we didn't like this is too extreme, but if booking this property you need to be aware that the nearest practical car parking is 100m or so away. This property would probably not work so well for anyone with very restricted mobility. You would also need to be sure that the people staying in the upper apartment are similarly peaceful! (And indeed they were.)

Cottage in a great location with a beautiful view of Faja Grande, the ocean and of course the Monchique rock. Veronika, a great caretaker of guests. Thanks to her, our stay was successful and stress-free, because contact with the owner is very difficult.

The floor of the house is below ground level and that's probably why you can feel the damp. It would be good to dry out at least the fabric furniture (sofa and bed). A lot of stress before the vacation due to the payment system not very clearly described on the website and very inconvenient contact with the owner.

We loved the location in Faja Grande and the position of the property with the outside terrace with views to the sea. We liked the rustic feel.

There was a very strong smell of damp throughout. Many properties in the Azores we found have musty smells because of the humidity but this was a lot stronger and really unpleasant. The biggest issue is you can’t air the property as there are no windows so we had to resort to sleeping with the door open ( there are stable doors so you can lock the bottom and the top you can leave open with protection via an insect net) The payment process is complicated and despite paying the full balance 2 months before our departure the owner didn’t respond to our messages to confirm receipt and our booking was secure until the night before.

The place is in a good location close to waterfalls and hike trails. It is also well positioned with a nice view. It has nice kitchen setup and shower / bathroom. It is also roomy with TV / couch and outside patio to sit. The help (Veronica) was very nice and helpful and tried to be as accommodating as possible.

The host ignored our arrival all-together. We contacted the host many times, via messages, SMSs, calls, emails, but he ignored us, after we had already paid via bank transfer the stay, before we arrived. We had to contact Booking.com and complain. They contacted him as well, and finally, after 2 hours waiting outside the place in rain and wind, the host contacted me (not his help) and asked me to contact his help and get the keys. His help said the house was not ready... We had to wait another 2 hours for the help to clean the place. Thankfully, the help (Veronica) was very nice and helpful and tried to be as accommodating as possible. Also, the place is a bit humid / smells of humidity, maybe because of its situation in the mountainous side.. Therefore, my score is lower due to this high inconvenience..

BE CAREFUL here's the story : I still didn't receive any messages from the accommodation in the evening before arriving so I decided to send a text to the number that was provided by booking just to confirm how it works for the arrival, the check-in etc... Someone answered me saying that it wasn't booked because it wasn't paid for... (Booking mentions that the payment is managed by the host) So when I asked "then if I didn't text you myself right now I would have arrived tomorrow and nothing was booked for me, I wouldn't have had a room or anything ?" The lady answered with a plain "yeah exactly" Followed a bit of an argument because she sent me a link where I had to put all my card details saying that was the only way to pay now because a bank transfer wouldn't arrive on the same night so that's my only option to pay... No idea if the link was legit or not but this whole thing was really fishy to me... After some argument she agreed to a bank transfer with a screenshot as proof I made. That was a pretty stressful situation during the night just before arriving when I thought I'd have to book something else on the go... Also the lady didn't seem to care at all... So if you plan on staying there make sure YOU get in touch with them some days before you arrive because if you don't, it's basically none of their business. Also... The bathroom drain doesn't really work and they leave you a plunger to unclog it yourself each time you shower, functional but not ideal.

Everything was great! Good location close to the grocery store and with a great view of the ocean. Also a nice 1hr walk or few mints by car to Poço Ribeira do Ferreiro (waterfalls). There is some uphill walking required to reach the apartment, but that's the case for the whole town (Fajã Grande) The apartment in very well equipped, taken care of and clean. It seems to be quite new too. Bed is comfortable and has a nice view from one of the doors/windows. It's also very spacious and looks like the pictures. There's a cute outside area with table/chairs. Veronika checked us in, she was very friendly and helped us out a lot with transport around the island.

We were very happy with this apartment. But if I had to pick something negative it would be the pillows. After 10min your head is hitting the mattress. FYI The shower is a bit slow for the water to go down the drain so it creates a pool at your feet, but once you turn the water off it goes in a few seconds.
