Church House Beside the Lake

Amazing location - incredible views. Easy to walk over to the church before it gets too busy in the mornings. Great views of the lake. Kitchen clean & modern. Very close to town - just a few minutes of walking. Heat pump worked well, furniture/beds were quite comfortable in our opinion.

One thing to bear in mind is this property is next to a popular public carpark where people often reverse their cars in - this will mean you get high beam headlights through the big beautiful windows in the living space at night if you don't pull the curtains. This is not a fault of the property - it's just not quite as secluded as you might think given the location.

Limited hot water, need to monitor usage or no hot water after a while. The toilet tap is not a mixer, hot and cold water separate, so we use kitchen tap most of the time. Quite pricey for these inconvenience.

Tidy, nice kitchen, nice shower, cosy and a great view. The location was the main reason we picked it as it was straight across the road from the church.

The location was amazing - you are so close to the lake and church and the town is just a few minutes walk away across the footbridge - and it’s beautiful views all the way. The property is cosy, and well equipped if you’re self catering. It’s easy access to the Tekapo Springs and Roundhill and Ohau Skifield. Plenty of restaurants in within walking distance and a great supermarket for all your self catering needs.

We are doing a 15 day road trip around South Island and this is the most expensive property we booked. And in comparison so far it was, like some reviewers mentioned, “tired looking”. However these are very small things ; for example, the larger sofa didn’t have covers for the seat cushions (we found a spare sheet and covered it), the cutlery is mismatched so just felt like it’s a bit old, the bed linen looked tired, the throws/blankets for the sofa, could do with a change, the light bulbs in the main living area could be changed/replaced to provide better light etc. These are all small changes that would take it up just a notch but they weren’t inconveniences affecting our stay in any way. The most relevant feedback is that the house is clean, warm, cosy and comfortable and you can’t beat the location … we even managed to see some beautiful starlit skies without having to do a tour. We loved our stay there - we stayed three nights - and my kids so far have it in their top 3 places we have stayed at (we are at our 6th accommodation out of 8 stops and they’ve all been great). We would highly recommend for families like us - but it’s not for the fussy. We loved it so much we would definitely come back to stay here if we were visiting Tekapo again in a future trip to New Zealand .

Outstanding location for anyone looking to photograph the historic Church of the Good Shepherd. Also excellent walking distance to the eateries of Lake Tekapo.
