Valentina's House

The location. We loved coming “home” to Porto da Cruz. Great and friendly people, good local food, and rainbows every day-usually doubles! The space was terrific, beds very comfortable and plenty of hot water. We had planned hikes in the northeast while there and very happy everything was within 20 minutes drive. Luna was a fabulous host, very responsive and made us feel so relaxed.

So spacious, simple but comfortable. Really well equipped. Excellent shower. The view from the huge terrace. Great location on the north side of the island but within east reach of Machico and Funchal. Great welcome from host Nuno. Parking is a real bonus.

Nothing, but a bit more outdoor seating and a few more mugs and glasses would be nice.

Amazing location with marvelous views. Cool owner. Everything perfectly equipped. Perfect for big family or friend squad.

I visited Porto da Cruz with my girlfriend and I don't think we could have found a better place than this! Nuno was super nice and welcomed us personally and showed us the house. The location is fantastic. There is huge terrace (bigger than my whole apartment back home!) where you can sit back, relax and watch the ocean, even catch some sun on the sunbeds. The house itself is huge as well. For just two people, it was much more than we needed - we just used the master bedroom, kitchen and living room. Other things to mention: - the bed in the master bedroom is gigantic! - living room has a fireplace, and since we visited in December when it's not too warm out, we built a fire one night and watched the World Cup, it was very romantic :D - kitchen is equipped with everything you need - did I mention the location is great? It's right next to the Church in Porto da Cruz, a small town with just two shops and 4 or 5 restaurants, and all of them are reachable on foot in under 5 minutes. (by the way, we loved this little town, it felt extremely welcoming and cozy)

Small nitpicks, nothing major: - The hot water can run out, and then you need to wait until it warms up again, so I imagine that with 3+ people, not everyone can shower at the same time of day. This wasn't a problem for us, except when my girlfriend took a long shower one day - Internet was rather slow and we had to work for a few days, so we bought a Vodafone SIM (unlimited Internet for 30 euros and 30 days) and set up our own hotstpot, problem solved - The house is very well maintained but pretty old, which is visible in some places. A couple of the rooms have their distinct smell (not unpleasant, just from the old furniture) and there are spots of mold on the terrace walls. (but humidity is to be expected so close to the ocean, it didn't bother us at all) - There were no washing machine or dishwasher tablets and we had to buy our own

We enjoyed large, authentic historic building with many rooms. The house has two large terraces with ocean view. Everything was very clean and well equiped. Bedrooms with beautiful and comfortable beds. House is situated in small, but convenient town with several restaurants and grocery stores. Just outside house one can start to walk beautiful hiking trails.
