La Casetta del Vicinato

Το σπίτι είναι άψογο, πολύ καθαρό και σε μια τοποθεσία που θυμίσει γειτονιά από τα παλιά. Ο κύριος Vito μας υποδέχθηκε και μας έδειξε όλο το σπίτι και μας έδωσε και χρήσιμες πληροφορίες για την πόλη. Για εμάς πολύ χρήσιμο ήταν το τραπεζάκι του εξωτερικού χώρου καθώς κάθε βράδυ καθόμασταν εκεί με ένα ποτήρι κρασί και ένα πιάτο από τα υπέροχα τυριά της περιοχής. Παρόλο που είναι μέσα στην παλιά πόλη ουσιαστικά είναι πολύ ήσυχα. Ήταν όλα τέλεια.

Matera was fantastic, as was the location of this cottage, being a few steps from the wonderful old centre but also so quiet! It was a charming place full of character.

Sadly our wonderful experience was slightly marred as we were leaving, mainly due to our own not reading the small print in the details. We asked to use the sofa bed due to certain snoring, as we have throughout all of our 8 different holiday stays in both Italy and Crete. This was the first place that charged us €20 extra for the sheets, which l thought would have been perfectly acceptable as was extra work. We loved it there so much, so we asked to stay another night, and was asked how much extra, so we could pay on leaving, so we made sure we had it and the €20 extra. Then came the sting in the tail. We were charged €20 for each night!!! So an additional €60 plus the tourist fee. Sadly it used up all the cash l had for visiting a castle we were about to drive off to. I think when asked how much extra we needed to pay, it should have been made clear from the onset when we booked, not to be confronted upon leaving as it took the shine off the wonderful stay. We were only asked once to pay €10 on the nights after this when we left for Gravina de Pulia, and only the one off fee, NOT per night! Plus the WiFi didn't work at all.

The location is truly amazing and the accommodation had everything we needed. We loved the table and chairs outside where we could enjoy a drink. The street was very quiet.

The bed is very hard and quite uncomfortable

The location was perfect for us. We were able to walk from Matera centrale to La Cassetta del Vicinato which is located in a quiet U shape street. Single storey so no steps. Around the corner leads to the piazzas and the restaurants. Then there are the breathtaking views of the Sassi right there. The property was very functional for us to cook an evening meal. Would definitely stay again. The host was very helpful and knowledgeable.

Superb location, a couple of minutes from the Sassi, a couple of minutes from covered parking and on a small quiet street. Comfortable home, exceptionally clean and really good value. The owners are so nice, so helpful.
