A Casa di Irene

Everything! Staying in the Sassi, in a cave, was an amazing experience. On top of that, Chiara was a very welcoming and helpful host. She sent us messages previous to our arrival explaining where we could park the car, how to arrive at the place, what she left as a courtesy for our breakfast and the wifi information. Her place is clean, with a lot of utilities, some snacks, and very comfortable. My friend and I loved Casa di Irene!

Nothing about the place was unlikable! But we did got the impression from the description on booking that we would find parking closer to the Sassi. We ended up parking 20 min from the place since we couldn’t find free park spots closer. There are, indeed, closer paid parking if needed.

Emplacement parfait pour découvrir la ville. Un véritable appartement troglo à faire absolument pour comprendre le style de vie de l'époque des habitants de Matera. La terrasse devant pour profiter de la fraicheur.

Aucun contact physique avec l'hôte. Climatisation ne fonctionnant pas. Douche vraiment petite.

L'emplacement en plein de cœur des Sassi. Hébergement dans une grotte insolite.

Faire attention aux différents niveaux avec des marchés.

I felt that I was in a piece of the local history. There were five cave dwelling entrances in the lovely courtyard but only two were habitable. The other three were still closed up from the years of expulsion. Casa Di Irene is a spacious and modernized cave complex with the walls thickly painted and equipped with a small modern kitchen and a spacious bathroom with a shower large enough to accommodate my 6’4” with room to spare. The master bedroom is huge as is the living room/dining area. The smaller second room was not used by me as I was traveling solo. The location is perfect with at least six or seven restaurants in the immediate area including one offering a somewhat budget menu. There is a large supermarket a 10-minute walk away and a smaller shop/bakery adjacent to the Casa.

There is a hard to notice step down between the kitchen and bathroom where I tripped repeatedly until I placed things on it to help me see it better. The toilet needed time to reset between flushes which took me time to adjust to. I texted the owner about it and received a prompt and positive reply which I appreciated very much. There were several low places where I had to duck a bit but being a cave, that only added to the Casa’s charm.

Great location, lovely quirky apartment, amazing interior, excellent communication about getting there, n getting into cave apartment. Had a pint of milk biscuits n water in fridge. Matera is beautiful during day, but spectacular at night.

Maybe have a kettle, though we got by, filling a pot on stove.

Jesteśmy zachwycone pobytem! Bardzo klimatyczny apartament, w którym można poczuć historię tego miejsca! Idealne położenie w Sassi. Urocze, kameralne podwórko z możliwością spędzenia wieczoru na dworze. Wszystkie niezbędne udogodnienia dostępne, a kontakt z właścicielami bez zarzutu!

Wszystko w najlepszym porządku!

The location was wonderful. The experience sleeping in the Sassi cave was like living a film. We slept peacefully with hardly any noise at night, the bedroom area was comfortable.

We understand the humidity problem but the dehumidifier wasnt working. The shower was really uncomfortable with faulty shower head always slipping. The front door is difficult to close.
