"Felt super special in sleep in an authentic Kyoto house that is over 100 years old. Yuki was just wonderful with researc"

Fantastic to hear the shōbōdan (volunteer fire corps). They were out on yomawari (night rounds) to remind residents to be careful of fire. Great clothing washing facilities and magical onsen.

"Charming traditional house that may lack some space, necessities and modern conveniences."

8.0

My kids loved this old, traditional Japanese house with tatami matts throughout. We liked the kind lady who brought us the keys and bread and provided with overview of the property and the neighborhood. Hosts also surprised us with cold water in the fridge, yoghurts and even butter (which we have never recognized in stores, due to unfamiliar packaging and language barrier). On arrival, host rep presented us with wet towel to cool down from the outside heat. Despite the old house, it was clean and equipped with modern conveniences like toilette with bidet, modern bathroom with shower, tub, clothes washer and dryer, Adequate supply of soap and other necessities. WiFi worked well for us, however QR code for login info would be very useful. Rack with rental bikes was right outside the door.

The house was rather small and space very limited. It looks bigger on pictures, but there were two rooms closed off and used for owner's storage, which took away most of the space available for visitors. When I booked it, I was under impression that it has 6 bedrooms, however it's only 1 bedroom with up to 6 traditional beds, which is just a mattress on the floor. Lighting of the house was very dim and wall outlets were very scarce (some extensions and splitters would help to deal with it, as we all need to charge phones, batteries, plug in laptops etc., Also some convenience light in addition to main lights would also help. There was no space to hang clothes, like a shirt or jacket. Luggage space was limited and inconvenient. Refrigerator was very TINY, way too small to be useful. There was no hotplate, stove or anything to cook on. (when house comes with a kitchen, I would assume it has cooking provisions, so I didn't read details on every piece of appliances and equipment provided.) No sink in the bathroom. We had to brush teeth in the kitchen.

"Travel back in time with this cozy, antique little home perfect for two!"

10.0

Impossible to make the experience more perfect. We got an entire vintage home to ourselves. It was absolutely gorgeous, very comfortable, and positioned by a great food street (near the golden pavilion). Hosts gave us delicious bread every day and directed us to their favorite spots

Only thing was I kept bashing my head on things bc I'm tall. Just be mindful of low ceilings and door frames, that's it! Oh, and very creaky stairs

"Loved it!"

Thanks for staying at your amazingly cozy traditional japanese house. I only have good things to say about this accomodation and the service provided by Taka and Ken. On top of all the necessities being on point, Ken provided us with freshly baked bread for breakfast every morning. And not just any bread - traditional ryebread. For 2 danes traveling Japan for a few weeks, this coincidence to get a surprise ryebread fix was very welcome! I could not imagine me staying at any other place should I visit Kyoto again!

It's such a cool house! We really enjoyed it! The owner goes put of his way to make guests comfortable and offers suggestions of local restaurants and places to visit. Also, the bread he offers is delicious!
