Moinho da Capela — A truly magical place This beautifully restored old watermill — Moinho da Capela, the Mill of the Chapel — sits nestled in the curve of a river, built on solid rock, with a Maria statue standing quietly at its door. When the devastating floods of early 2026 swept through the area — the worst Portugal had seen in nearly 30 years — the ancient mill was miraculously spared, while almost everything around it was washed away. With extraordinary love and dedication, the owners rebuilt everything from scratch in just three months to reopen for the season. The result is breathtaking — and somehow even more beautiful than before. Vera is a wonderful host — warm, welcoming and genuinely caring. Everything was spotlessly clean, the beds wonderfully comfortable, and the breakfast outstanding — freshly prepared with local products and served with love. The property has several beautiful buildings where guests can stay, all decorated with a real eye for detail and in harmony with the natural surroundings. After the floods, the river found a new course, creating a beautiful new sandbank where Vera has placed a table, chairs and twinkling lights — the perfect spot for a drink or dinner as evening falls. There is something here for everyone. Nature lovers will be in heaven. Those seeking rest will find it at the pool, jacuzzi and lounge area. The adventurous can canoe, hike, cycle or walk. The property is also close to the beautiful Barragem do Caia reservoir. And the wider area offers historic cities like Elvas, Campo Maior and Badajoz, plus all the wonderful food and wine the Alentejo is famous for. By choosing to stay here, you are not just treating yourself to something truly special — you are supporting two people who poured their hearts and souls into this place. We hope to return. Vera nous a fait vivre une expérience humaine : c'est une belle personne courageuse, à l'écoute, et dévouée. Bravo Vera ! L'endroit est charmant, et présente un très gros potentiel. Nous avons particulièrement apprécié l'acceptation des animaux de compagnie. Belle piscine bordée de transats pour se détendre.

Très bel endroit en pleine nature, au calme...Petit déjeuner énorme !! Vera se fait un plaisir de vous accueillir, vous renseigner, personne extrêmement sympathique et disponible.

Tivemos uma estadia absolutamente maravilhosa no Moinho da Capela. O espaço é extremamente acolhedor e fomos recebidos com uma amabilidade excecional. É notável o esforço da equipa em garantir que tivéssemos a melhor experiência possível, especialmente considerando os desafios que enfrentaram com as cheias deste ano; mesmo assim, fizeram questão de nos receber e colocar todo o espaço à nossa disposição. Os pontos altos foram, sem dúvida, a facilidade em fazer canoagem no rio Caia, mesmo a poucos metros da zona comum, e o jacuzzi com água aquecida que soube pela vida! Além disso, foram super atenciosos ao deixarem um miminho especial no pequeno-almoço no dia do meu aniversário. Recomendamos vivamente! We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Moinho da Capela. The space is extremely cozy, and we were welcomed with exceptional kindness. It is remarkable how much effort the team put into ensuring we had the best experience possible, especially considering the damage they suffered from this year's floods; even so, they went above and beyond to host us and make the entire space available to us. The highlights were, without a doubt, the canoeing on the Caia River, just a few meters from the common area, and the heated jacuzzi, which was amazing! Also, they were incredibly thoughtful by preparing a special treat for breakfast on my birthday. We highly recommend it!
