The Edge Mountain Retreat

Very nice accommodation for a reasonable price at a great location with nice views and hiking options! Friendly staff. Spacious room with a nice bathroom.

Not the fault of the accommodation, but be aware that the road everywhere in Hogsback and from the main road to the accommodation is gravel road which is not in the best condition. Especially if you are not used to this and when it rains, you have to take this into account. It is not that long, so all part of the adventure and still doable with normal car (although more challenging in the rain). Wifi in the B&B could be better, but of course this is a mountain retreat, so good moment to disconnect.

The location was excellent. The Chestnut unit was nestled between huge trees and a short walk to the reception and restuarant. The unit was spacious but the bathroom was a little bit of a squeeze, mind you nothing like a 3 star European budget hotel.

Bathroom was a little bit cramped with no where to place or hang clean clothing during a shower. A small towel rail or something similar would have helped - not all clothing fits easily on the two robe/towel hooks.

The place in the ideal location - quiet and very tranquil and wonderful views over the Edge, away from everyone else. We could really unwind here. The Edge restaurant is a very short walk away - lovely warm fire going and the restaurant was also great - fantastic pizza and beer. The cabin was also very well stocked with everything you could possibly need for self catering purposes. Even a small gas stove for when there is load shedding - which did actually happen during out stay.

We thought the mattress was exceptionally hard. I don't mind a hard bed but this was a bit too much. On our last day we checked and we discovered that the mattress had been placed upside down - we did report this and they were very apologetic.

The setting and the gardens. The dining area is nice and the breakfasts were good. The electric blanket on the bed was very welcome.

The wardrobe in the room was very narrow. Had to hang things at an angle. No mirror in the bedroom close to a convenient plug for a hairdryer. Would have liked bigger towels and a heated rail on which to dry them.

Propre, jardins splendides, personnel adorable, très bons restaurants, bons conseils de marche, bâtiments ravissants. Le coin est un petit paradis.
