Opulent Georgian townhouse overlooking Spencer Square

The location is very good. On a nice quiet road only ten minute walk from the beach and restaurants. The property itself was really nice. A big spacious house with all the necessities. The hosts were really kind and kept in touch throughout.

Parking is very tricky. On the first day we were driving around for almost 20 minutes before we found a space. Also due to the exposed floorboards throughout the property sound travels and so any small movement or noise can be heard through the house.

More lightning needed in the basement for cooking, projector wifi didn’t work

This was such a spectacular house to stay in, like a piece of living history and the gorgeous square it is on is really special. It’s only a short walk to lovely cafes and shops and the beach and harbour are really close. The house has been so beautifully restored and preserved and has been so tastefully decorated. We really loved it- thank you so much for enabling us to have this experience!

This is just because of the nature and age of the house, so is not a criticism, but the stairs are very steep and it’s not really suited for people with mobility issues. I do think bannisters would be useful on the steps down to the kitchen and up to the upper bedrooms.

Sofa bed was a bit wobbly

Huge property, you get a lot of bang for your buck. The lower snug area was our favourite part of the house, would love to have a room like that. We used this room the most.

We found the main living room on the ground floor to be defunct, it felt cold and we did not use it all. The ornate sofas looked uncomfortable and the television would have been in a strange position to watch. Unfortunately for the property, the neighbouring house has anti social behaviour problems, we spoke to a nearby resident who confirmed they have been a long term problem. One could often hear loud abusive shouting through the walls, and there was a large argument on the street while we there. Police also attended the location on a separate occasion, for which I was close to making a report to Police myself (I m a police officer) if not for someone else calling them. This ongoing ASB made the stay not as stress free as it could have been, and although they did not cause us directly any problems, we didn’t feel like we could relax. This is no fault of the owner of the house, but something to bear in mind if they’re still there. We also thought that the cleanliness of the house, while adequate, could have been better, the floors were not vacuumed as well as they could have been, and I felt the need to use the vacuum that was in a cupboard while there (which did not have the best suction, which might explain the carpets and rugs). The main bathroom toilet was blocked during our time there.

Great house in a very good location. Perfect for a large family.
