Kyoto Kanjakuan

The house was beautifully crafted and suitable for a family of four. The train station was a short walk away and easy to travel to the Bamboo forest. The kids loved staying upstairs it was like a cubby. Traditional features like the rice paper walls and wooden doors and roll out bedding.

No heating in the shower room.

It was very stylish. Everything felt new. Made our stay very special

Quite a long walk from the heart of Kyoto but close to a train station.

It was easy to check-in. The host was very accommodating and answered all our concerns. We loved the traditional decors and the automatic tub.

The futons were quite thin. It would be nice if it were a bit thicker especially for those with back problems.

It was a quiet neighborhood. A little bit confusing to find. The bathroom was inside a bedroom so a little inconvenient.

This is a beautifully renovated, one bedroom, duplex townhouse, decorated in Japanese minimalist style. The bathroom has a shower area & deep bath, which is a lovely feature. There is space on the upstairs landing for 1 - 2 additional futons. There is a microwave, small fridge, single hob cooker & large clothes washer in the kitchen. There is a tiny garden outside. There are supermarkets & convenience stores within a 10 - 15 minute walk. It is situated on a quiet road.

Older and less mobile Westerners may find sitting on the floor to eat somewhat challenging (there are no chairs or stools in the house at all & only one low table). There is no hanging space or storage area, so you will literally be living out of a suitcase on the floor. There is very limited space in the kitchen or in the fridge for your food. Be careful, as the stairs are also very steep. These are only small points but they will be important for some guests. The subway is an 18 minute walk away, while the JR rail station (trains every 20 minutes approximately) is an 8 - 10 minute walk. Overall, we enjoyed our stay!

The location was very good. The house was really nice - very good style and also very clean. It was super easy to find and we could do the self check-in with no problems.

It was a bit small for our group of five, not really any communal space. Also the beds are very firm (not necessarily a bad thing, but after long days of walking a bit of a softer place to rest would be nice).
