Eco Breeze - Unawatuna

It had a cute jungle hut vibe.

By far, the worst experience I’ve had in my life. The owner kept harassing me over WhatsApp way before check-in to know when we would get there. When I finally gave him an answer, he then messaged a couple hours later saying the room was ready. Once we get there, only one of the beds was prepared and once we asked for the second bed, the first excuse was that I didn’t specify we were two people (wrong), and then that they assumed we were a couple. If you see the description, it clearly states the room comes with three beds so all three beds should be prepared, regardless of how many people are coming. After insisting with the caretaker that we were two friends and we were not gonna share a bed, he finally brought bed sheets so that we could make the second bed. Once that hurdle was over, then there was an issue with the WiFi. The caretaker was just standing around, doing something on his phone near the router, and then told me there wouldn’t be any WiFi until the next day. I explained it was unacceptable because I needed WiFi to do video calls and the issue needed to be resolved. He then suggested he’d give me the WiFi from the room located down their property and I could do my video calls on the street. At night. In a swarm of mosquitoes. Unacceptable. The owner then offered to top up my phone with mobile internet to compensate for it, and he gave me a whole 1GB of data 😂 We decided to let it go because we had our own data and went out to dinner. Once we returned, around 9:30 pm, we connected the provided extension cord and the power went out. After contacting the owner, he told us he’d come by the next day to fix it. So we would be unable to charge any of our devices until the following morning. In the end, it was just too much for us. We left that same night and moved to a different accommodation. Props to the owner for refunding the second night, though.

The place is near the beach and the main road. However, it's a very quiet place that looks like you're in the middle of the jungle. You get to "meet" monkeys, iguanas, squirrels, and lots of birds. The balcony was my favorite place to be. They have a fridge and an exterior kitchen with dishes and cutlery. The room cleaning lady comes every 3 days to clean the cottage and change bed sheets and towels.

At night, I saw a rat and several geckos inside the cottage, making noise on the upper floor during the night. But it became quiet after raising the bed spots so the rat couldn't hide. (it looks like it's impossible to experience Sri Lanka without animals :)The mobile connection was poor inside the cottage, but I believe that's an issue with the mobile company.

Everything about this place is worth recommending, the beach is very close, sounds of the nature and being able to actually watch animals is the garden are very memorizing. Wonderful place for relax.

There was a monitor lizard that came into the room. At all times, you need to keep the mosquito nets on. No wifi. No water. Nobody understood English.

Eco Breeze is really wonderful! My family (wife and two small children) and I really enjoyed our stay in the middle of the jungle. The bathroom and kitchen are in the open and everything else is available that is necessary for daily needs. The bathroom is spacious and modern. Particularly noteworthy is the warm light color of the lamps. This is rather rare in Sri Lanka. The beds are big enough and comfortable. The environment with the peacock and monkey sounds is the absolute highlight! That especially in the evening in the jungle many mosquitoes are on the way, I think no one is surprised. The beach is about eight minutes walk away and beautiful. There is also shopping nearby. It is only about 12 minutes to Galle by tuk tuk. It was a really extraordinary stay. I hope we can come back again soon. Love to the host! :-)

Lovely little place with ample privacy and easy access to the beach. Helpful, friendly hosts and owner. There is a bit of an uphill climb to the property but this was manageable.
