Granny's house view

We had an amazing time at Granny's House. The place has everything one might need. The host was nice and made sure to show us the place when we arrived. He also told us that he would be available anytime during our stay. The place had an amazing view of the ocean. We are looking forward to come back.

The view over Funchal is really nice. A private parking spot makes life easy.

While I understand the conditions on the Madeira and the high humidity, the plaster on the walls should not fall off. There is no working hood in the kitchen which could be disturbing. Other than that, the only thing I can complain about are the ants. There are few of them, while I found them in the dishes stacked in the cabinets. There is enough space for 4 people to eat together but the kitchen is quite tiny.

The view is nice and there is a BBQ area outside. There was a watching machine & iron which would have been useful. The host greeted me upon arrival, despite me being later than anticipated (as I couldn’t find the property) The property was reasonably priced.

Wished I’d paid a bit more attention to the reviews rather than the rating. Situated a short (but challenging) drive away from the city centre, I decided to change accommodation after check in and take the loss on the costs. You have to drive steep roads to get there, the parking is quite difficult and the place is a bit outdated (the mattress on the bed was also quite hard). I found that there was a lot of mosquitos around and no spray/net. The host was very apologetic.

The only thing you have to consider - as Funchal is a city that goes really high, getting down to the city centre is not a problem, but back - it's quite an intense hiking for almost an hour :) But there are buses as well as Bolt taxi so it's totally ok to commute. Also, when driving a car, just take these steep narrow streets into account.

Very spacious, you have everything you need in house to stay a couple of days and cook or grill if that’s what you are into. Lovely garden with a nice view. Private parking is plus if you can get to it.

As much the view is nice, the same can be obtain pretty much anywhere in Funchal, in my opinion it doesn’t justify the over price. And then there a couple of details worth mention, for the price I expect a better shower, needs a bit of an upgrade and maintenance since water is leaking out. The hot water is also barely enough for two people taking shower one after the other. And finally something that needs to be crystal clear to anyone that intents to rent a car. The location is yes served by a bus, but to have more flexibility you need a car for this accommodation. However this is a double edge sword, parking the car on the private parking does require driving experience, I had a very very small car and yet it was not straight forward to park the car up there everyday. If your car is a bit bigger you will have troubles, period. The all area is very steep and you are better off leaving the car a bit further from the property.

Beds to hard, there wasn’t 2 bedrooms as advertised. The double bed was in the lounge. Not a problem for just 2 of us though.

We like all about this place!!!! An excellent 🏠 with tidy garden (palm and banana trees), wide terrace with an extraordinary view over the Funchal, city & port, and ocean. There is fire place if you like to prepare grilled meals. Fully equipped kitchen, Paul let us have basics for cooking (such as salt, oil, spices, coffee, sugar…) enough until the first visit to supermarket. Madeira chocolate as a small treat- appreciated ❤️ We took the rent-a car at the airport, so we had 🅿️ place in the own yard.

I was terrified by surroundings, steep and narrow streets - but it is Madeira 😎😬🫣 Before visiting it, I thought people exaggerate. No, they don’t!!! It is really frightening. After some time, I got used to it 🙃but I have to admit it was challenging experience.
