"Hidden gem"

10.0

Brilliant - middle of nowhere hidden gem. Close enough by car to shop / take away. Amazing. Kitchen and property had everything you needed! View amazing, horses lovely plus for kids. Safe for kids Just Brillaint!!

Nothing - walk up a small hill from car..but the reality is to stay in a hidden gem like this ..small walk up the hill is nothing. No good for anyone with walking difficulties though

The Hobbit House.. what a beautiful hidden gem! Nestled in the hill, magical door to enter and then a beautiful warm & modern finish within - and the constant view! Do visit.. it’s a must

The quirkiness and location

We drove past the lodge a couple of times, signpost would help. A few instruction manuals on how to use stuff instead of walking around flicking light switch on and off

"Wilderness Lodge - a hidden gem 💎"

10.0

My bestie and I wanted a weekend of peace and BOY did we get it.... stunning location, so peaceful - only noise is from the occasional neigh of the horses or a twitter from a bird! Never experienced such a calming space. All the amenities you need with some personal touches too. The horse food to feed the 3 horses was such a sweet touch (and I'm scared of horses but they were super friendly!), remember to take carrots 😉 We thought we'd try to order a takeaway (given how rural we were, we weren't hopeful) however, the Wong Wong in Weston Rhyn deliver and the Chinese was amazing!! The sunrise is well worth getting up early for as it's so stunning, equally if it's a bit drizzly to watch the mist rise to uncover the valley below is just as stunning. Some friends of ours have already booked to stay here on our recommendation! Mike and Gilly were the perfect hosts! Honestly if you're after that haven of peace and tranquility then the Wilderness Lodge excels and then some! Thank you.

There's absolutely nothing to not like about the lodge! Only thing I think we missed was a microwave so we could heat up some food we had (but that didn't put us off at all, only a suggestion 😊)

Everything excellent in a lovely location. Really good instructions and helpful.

I think most cars won't get up the track unless 4wd.

"Very good"

8.0

Beautiful lodge, well furnished, fabulous views and lots of wildlife.

It was hard to find. There was no notice at the gap in the hedge to say you had arrived at Wilderness Lodge - it looked like the entrance to some stables. There was a steep and badly potholed slope up to the parking area outside the stables, which was a challenge to our car (an average family saloon). There was then a very steep and (in wet weather) slippy hill to climb to the lodge itself - we were advised you could drive up the hill to unpack the car, but in damp conditions this proved impossible with the cars wheels spinning and unable to gain traction. . Walking up the slope was a challenge for my husband who has a heart condition and we feel a warning to this effect should be given before booking as I am sure it would be equally challening to anyone with mobility problems..

"Disappointing"

5.0

The view.

There are a couple of things that sadly made our stay uncomfortable. The property is described as pet friendly, however it really isn't. On arrival as we were unloading our cars we were asked to keep our dogs on leads as there is livestock around, and we were expected to keep them on leads 24/7. The piece of land in front of the property isn't enclosed meaning we had to either keep the dogs indoors (totally unfair on the dogs) or we had to be with them outside for every toilet trip. It isn't reasonable to expect people to be happy with this whilst on holiday when you just want to enjoy your space and unwind and it completely spoiled the trip as we felt like we were being watched (the lodge is at the top of their back garden so you can be seen). We couldn't relax at all, despite our dogs being so well behaved. I understand if the owner has anxiety about dogs, but if that's the case, perhaps don't advertise the property as pet friendly. I sent a request about the dogs when I booked the property. Secondly there was only one towel in the property and when we messaged to request further towels they replied saying that they will "try" to get some to us. Despite being at the bottom of the path, they didn't manage to get any to us until much later the following day. By which point one of us had been into town and bought some. Very disappointed with that. Towels are advertised on the listing, but bring your own just in case there aren't any there. The oven trays hadn't been cleaned following the previous guest cooking on them, and the hand towel in the bathroom had stains on it. There was no bedding or linen for the sofa bed. Again completely putting us out, we had a spare blanket in our car that we used but it made for poor quality sleep as the bed was itchy without any sheet. Make sure to take your own duvet and linen.
