This was a highly memorable stay despite the fact that because of a cyclone we were unable to fulfil our plans for Franz Josef. The house is supremely comfortable and has a wonderful wraparound balcony, where you can have a drink and watch the native NZ birds at close range. It has very well-equipped kitchen facilities and lovely bathrooms. It is also very clean and has a fantastic wood burner, which proved a life saver when coming in from the rain. The house is situated in a private cul de sac, surrounded by lush greenery (we had the chance to see for ourselves why the greenery is so lush in that region!). The host was very responsive, caring and helpful. The stay here was a definite highlight of our trip.

It had everything we needed as we stayed in and cooked most nights. Large rooms and plenty of space. Mel was extremely helpful when we needed her. Highly recommend.

Everything was great. Very decent size house with a large lounge/kitchen space, 3 big rooms, and 2 spacious bathrooms! Fire place with heaps of woods prepared in the garage. Fast wifi, oh, the last room, which is at the end of the corridor, doesn't get strong wifi, but it didn't really bother much. Really nice host with a prompt response. A few days before our booking, there was an unexpected road closure. I got worried and texted Mel. She was super helpful, giving all the details and information that she could get. From that information, she said that the road work would be done before my check-in date. And she kept me posted until the road work was finally done, which was really kind. (In the end, the road reopened even before the scheduled date.) We absolutely loved this place. So happy that we could make it to Franz Josef! As soon as we checked in, I contacted Mel to extend our stay, but sadly, it was already booked(no wonder!) I'm definitely coming back when I'm back in town next time =)

The house was great for our stay in Franz Josef to do the glacier heli-hike. The kitchen was outstanding for cooking our own meals and the fireplace came in handy the night after hiking the glacier and glow worm cave. The whole experience of the house was relaxing and a nice break from the hotels we had been staying in.
