Location was good

Where to start. The bin in kitchen had a foul smell. The couch in living room was dilapidated, dirty, unhygienic. Had cigarette burn on it. The bed in main bedroom highly uncomfortable. My husband slept in a hole. The mattress needs to be replaced. The upstairs patio door could not close or lock properly. The seating in the lounge was inadequate. The place is meant for one couple with small or younger kids. Place not suitable for 4 adults. No soap or complimentary shower gel in both bathrooms. 50 ml of dishwasher for 4 days with 4 adults sharing a place where crayfish 8s is the main attraction. 2 toilet rolls for 4 adults for 4 days. We have been to paternoster 3 times in the past 18 months. We have stayed at Phoenix and Aandster, but this stay was just plain unacceptable. The pics were misleading. You should take it down from the website or take new pictures that actually shows prospective visitors the real deal. It shows a deck on the second floor with a braai. That is not the case. The braai in living room was dirty. The seating is not suitable. The kitchen is I'll equipped. I do not recommend this place at all. A bad experience and definitely money not well spent.

Comfortable

Need salad bowels, couldn’t use big frying pan as it is rusted. Needs to be fumigated, hardly slept, at night there are baby cockroaches everywhere, on walls by upstairs bedroom. Especially behind the headboard. Never had this problem with our first stay.

Proximity to the beach

Bedding was torn and duvet to small for inner. 2 dishwasher tablets was left for 3 nights stay. 1 roll of toilet paper in each toilet only. Had to ask for more. The stench of fire was permeating throughout our stay from previous visitors- could be something wrong with vent in fireplace. Furniture is worn and smelly. Needs a freshen up. No proper bedside table in 2nd room. Wood around kitchen basin needs to be replaced- rotting and unhygienic.Plug switches behind microwave is a hazard. Was reported to Stay Paternoster who was surprised although other reviews from previous months made reference to issues. Nothing has clearly been done. Does not amount to value to money. Felt more like the servants quarters to the property in front (Veldtmuis)

Although there is no sea view, it is just a very short walk to a lovely beach. The cottage is very picturesque and lovely and quiet at night. It is a sweet blend of convenience with beach rustic charm.

The couch is a bit grubby and not too comfortable.... needs to have some repairs. Could do with another comfy chair. Surfaces clean but could do with things being moved and cleaned. Didn't like the dirty braai being in the lounge. It took up space and blocked access to the only available power point in the living area.

The kitchen needs a upgrade

The upstairs bedroom was lovely, bar the door leading to the balcony , which needs some serious work or complete replacement.

Light weren't checked prior to arrival and some were not working. The downstairs bathroom.had no lights working at all. A difficult situation for elderly people.
