Thé chickens

We booked 3 nights but got out at one. Terrible host that dindt now we where coming.(So not cleaned) It's smelled, thé house is to old to be renting out.. when we talked to the owner about noise, and smell we dindt got ant answer. Totally NOT clean

Nice house, beautiful garden and lovely animals (chickens and rabbits roaming the grounds). It was like staying at my grandmother's country house when I was young.

Having lived in Portugal for a few years, I really love old fashioned Portuguese houses and furniture. This is almost a time capsule; it's like being transported back in time and yet the house is pristine, despite this the WiFi is still very good. The bedrooms and beds were very nice, and the living room was super cosy. The kitchen is very well equipped, the fire is lovely and we were left with plenty of logs, and we were also left a cake! We received an excellent welcome and would happily stay here again.

We stayed during a storm and in the winter, and it wasn't very warm but it also wasn't cold. All the rooms were equipped with heaters so it wasn't exactly a problem, and when it's winter what can you do, it's not going to be tropical! It almost adds to the cosiness of sitting around the fire.

It is a traditional old school house with a huge garden inside which you can meet chickens, ducks and rabbits. Near by there are places where you can drink real poncha, buy Bolo do caco from the street vendor and go to the second biggest market in Madera on Sunday. House is very vintage, some people will like it, some won’t. Also the drive there was quite a experience, very steep roads but it’s just how it is in Madera.

Our host was not aware of our reservation, we arrived at our place and desperately tried to reach out to her, but she was not answering our messages in booking chat or phone calls to the number specified in booking reservation. We finally was able to call her with the number we found in google. We had to wait for over an hour for someone to drive to the place and clean the house before giving us the keys. The people that arrived were really polite and nice, (they were not the hosts) so I want to emphasize they did a good job and we don’t blame them. The place was far from clean and we even found some mold on wooden spoon in the kitchen.

The house needs some renovation, keeping is old style. For example, the forniture in the kitchen, the heating and electrical system. The wifi was weak in some areas. Very important: if check out is at a certain time, this must be respected by both parties. Seeing the gate open when we were still in the house and seeing and cleaning lady walking around the house (nothing to complain about her because she was very kind), waiting for us to leave because someone had to come in before check-in time, was not very nice.

the house is big and private, there is lots of random rooms, the garden was amazing with little rabbits, chickens (roosters wake you up in the morning) and ducks that are always hungry, there is washing machine and dryer; with a car it is easily accessible to the mountains, east coast or around funchal

the house was a bit scary with lots of random objects, the check in could be contactless :) and the electricity went down when we used the hairdryer, the living room could be more comfy - have a comfy couch for example

The place is super quiet and isolated.
