The Gate House Barn

Beautiful location, nice outdoor seating area, well equipped kitchen, spacious accommodation, comfortable, clearly listen to guest feedback (things mentioned as missing before were there e.g. hairdryer), nearby parking, slept very well, good views from the kitchen. We really enjoyed our stay and would stay again.

After our 26 mile walk we couldn't wait for a bath but we couldn't get the plug to close. A lot of people mention the water temperature of the shower and it was tricky. Set the temperature first via the tap and then switch to shower mode. I don't think I spotted any pillowcase protectors but may have missed it. I would always expect to see these and a mattress protector, apologies if missed. I'd read WiFi was available in another review but by the time we'd settled in and remembered we needed to ask reception for this, it was closed. It would be helpful to pop this in the information booklet in the room if there is WiFi available. Our 4G was hit and miss but not a massive issue.

I prefer accommodation with proper windows rather than Velux roof windows as I like to have views of something. I found the lack of windows claustrophobic. Also a cat seems to make itself comfortable on the outdoor furniture which is covered in hair

The standard of furnishings and fittings was very good. The location for us was ideal. The various farm animals and bird life was a bonus. Close to a variety of walking tracks.

Home from home. Really really lovely barn. Stunning location. Friendly and very accommodating with a relaxed and easygoing style. The place was perfect in every way. Will definitely return. The shop onsite is limited. So perhaps don't rely to much on getting all your food and essentials when you arrive in Birchover as there is no shop either. Take it with you like we did. We really enjoyed walking the Birchover Circular, and it was perfect weekend away. Really friendly landlady at The Red Lion pub aswell. 10/10 👌🏻

Not as secluded as we had expected. 2 other smaller occupied rooms either side of us. It didn't bother us as we're pretty easy going. But we were expecting privacy. Everything else was superb, so the fact we had company didn't detract away from our wonderful stay. We would book the other barn with the hot tub next time which doesn't have neighbours.
