"Nice old castle style building, friendly staff, unspoilt farmland and countryside surroundings"

7.0

Beautiful old building, with grand staircase, dining room and grounds with nice modern additions such as log cabins and new high quality period bathroom fittings etc. breakfast was exceptional with well cooked and big Scottish options and welcoming staff.

We arrived at 10pm due to weather and traffic causing delays, so a little late, but there was no provision for food, snacks or even a nightcap at what looked to be a nice bar lounge if it was open. No fires were lit anywhere during our stay which would have added a great deal to the experience. We paid £207 for one night as I wanted my wife to have some castle experience whilst visiting UK from Malaysia. UK Health and Safety rules have become so restrictive and must be hard for places like this to retain an authentic feel because of so many warning signs, stickers, emergency lighting and signage,.

"Lovely lodge with hot tub, fantastic food, staff lovely"

8.0

Lodge house was lovely, very warm and very clean and having the hot tub was fantastic with robes and slippers provided. Afternoon tea was lovely and staff very pleasant with good service Breakfast in a picnic hamper was lovely Would love to return for a meal as the quality of the meat was exceptional

The bed being two singles joined felt you were always tipping into middle of the bed so glad we only stayed one night Arrival: felt a bit like a spare part as left in bar without being offered a drink (wedding party also happening) or something whilst the key to our property was located as wasn't available from reception on arrival. We were told breakfast hamper would be 9am but ours didn't arrive until later so was about to call reception to find out what was happening. We are early birds and usually have breakfast early so being offered some flexibility for this would have been good

"Very good"

8.0

The lodge with the hot tub was excellently provided. The hot tub worked well and the facilities in the rooms were good. We ate in the restaurant one night and the food was very well cooked and presented. The staff were excellent.

The bed in the lodge was too big for the room it was in, a narrower bed would aid access.

"It was nice to have gone and seen it, I had thought it would have been bigger."

8.0

The meals were fantastic, The staff were friendly and helpful. I enjoyed walking around the grounds looking at the farmers cows and the view was lovely. It would be a perfect setting for couples. The town that you get off the train at is very cute.

I would have liked to have had a tour of the building, the person on the desk explained that the pictures of its history were in the stairwell to the tower. this was the entrance to the honeymoon suite so not accessible. Nothing to do after dinner and we were seated early so it made the evening long. The town only has one cab company so had to wait both ways to get to and from the castle. Would recommend renting a car.
