"What a view!"

8.0

Comfy room with kitchen annex, nice comfy bed. The rooms looks a bit like in a hotel (which is a plus). Great view from the balcony - birds will wake you up. Very nice hosts. There were radiators, so we didn't get cold luckily, even though the weather wasn't great. Nice shared living rooms with large armchairs - and the view!

Even though the room is renovated, you can still smell the moisture (which is pretty common in Madeira, especially in the north, but still - it is something that makes the stay less comfortable). Kitchen annex very small - difficult to cook a dinner. The parking is pretty small and if there are more guests in the house, it gets difficult to park (and the road is steep so no other options).

The room is clean and friendly, the kitchenette has everything you need. The best part is definitely the balcony with its amazing view!! The owners are extremely nice and welcoming.

"Pleasant stay in the rural north of Madeira"

7.0

On a quiet rural road, against the lush forest high up above Faial, Camelias is a family-run guesthouse with just a few rooms. Ours had a functional kitchen, a dining table for 2, TV, and a sunny south-facing terrace with great valley views, but no working wifi in the room. It's nice to stroll around the village to discover old stone pathways and levada canals, though it's steep in every direction. The closest shops and restaurants are 10 minutes away in Santana - we can recommend Marcel's Bistro. There's a special parking place off the road below the guesthouse. It's a peaceful place, though sounds from the large communal living room travel down the corridor - and around Christmas, the poor dog was not happy with the festive fireworks set off in the valley.

Noises from the dog and the living room reach the rooms too easily, and a solid door separating the hall from the rooms would make a big difference for a peaceful stay. Wifi is excellent in the living room, but annoyingly did not reach inside the room.

A dog on the property and several dogs barking in the neighbourhood. No hot water on arrival. We told the host that we could not stay, she understood and agreed on a reimbursement but then no news from her and no reimbursement

"Enjoyable end of the year"

10.0

Spent an enjoyable Christmas time here. Owner is very nice and was even willing to support me with logistics as I didn't come by car. That had great value in this rocky island where you can't just "go shopping" without losing pound of your weight 😂 Pico Ruivo reachable walking for serious hikers (12km far, 1500m climb), I prefered to take 5km of the hike on quite nice tarmac road as the island nature may be tricky...

Not sure WiFi was available for guests, used my data plan instead. 4g signal was good enough to watch IPTV. Pico Areeiro - Pico Ruivo trail closed at time of my stay 😢 Less touristy places are a bit of a jungle and a lot of tourist paths in map just don't exist or are hidden below always growing vegetation 😁
