Madre Tierra Eco Habitat

This was the perfect little slice of heaven to escape to. In the middle of nowhere, yet still easily accessible. It was quiet, peaceful, comforting, and very easy to relax. Management, staff, and volunteers were a small, intimate group that went out of their way to make everyone comfortable. The meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner if you choose) are all home-cooked on-site and incredibly delicious and they have a variety of vegan options that were all out of this world. Mornings here are peaceful and the perfect backdrop for early meditation/yoga in the meditation tent. The afternoons can be lazy if you choose, in a hammock with a good book or an afternoon siesta in one of the cozy cabins, and the evenings are quiet, either by the bonfire or laying out under the dark sky and bright stars listening to nothing but the night creature noises. (*note - when we were here they were working on the construction of the Tren Maya, so trucks could be heard driving by in the distance, but that is almost finished and it didn't take away from the beauty of our stay.) Our dogs were warmly welcomed and enjoyed exploring the space as much as we did. The property and cabins are meticulous. This stay did not disappoint and we will be back. There was nothing I didn't like. This is a very peaceful, relaxing environment operating as an eco-property (on a more luxurious level no-less) so best to manage your expectations as such and expect to disconnect as much as possible.

Madre Tierra is tucked away in a beautiful jungle location about 45 minutes drive from Cancun and 30 minutes from Puerto Morelos. The 2 bedroom cabana was HUGE and beautifully, sustainably built. Beatrice and her brother Jairo where great hosts although their English is limited. The owner Eduardo happened to be on the property and he is a welcoming, helpful guy -- bringing us pizza one night. There is a small town, Leona Vicario about 5 minutes down the road. It's a cute place but there are few amenities there, make sure to exchange your cash or pick up pesos before arriving to the property.

The property is lacking a sign at the moment so it can be a bit tricky to find. Look for the Cenote Poppl Vuh sign. It is directly across the street in a small dirt road turnoff with a large gate. Food options in the area are limited in the area other than antojitos in Leona Vicario. Some of the linens were a bit dirty, they could use an upgrade.

This was a beautiful location and a unique concept. We loved feeling like we were tucked away in the jungle. Very convenient to a cenote just across the road. The town of Leona Vicario, although small, we had a wonderful breakfast at a small Cafe and enjoyed watching the town wake up.

Since the location is somewhat remote and the road is not very well illuminated, it would have been helpful prior to checking in to have more clear instructions about the entrance. The gate was locked, and there was no visible signage. When we attempted to call, we were unable to reach anyone for quite some time until we decided to message through the Booking.com app. When we finally arrived, it was rather late after a long day of travel, and then not being able to find our lodging, we went straight to bed. The temperature at night also got quite chilly, and the blanket on the bed was rather thin, so we did not sleep great on account of being cold. The room only had one overhead light that was not very bright, so it was difficult to see in our bags to find anything without using our cellphone light. A bedside lamp would have been nice. And finally, in the morning, in an attempt to warm up, I wanted to take a shower, but the water was not very hot and the pressure was just a sprinkle so combined I was pretty disappointed, and still cold.

An immersive experience in nature, very relaxing and a nice break from the hustle and bustle of the Cancun area. The young guy managing the property (Cairo) was very sweet and helpful!

The description of the place could be more detailed. E.g. rooms don't include a "fully equipped kitchenette", there is only a common kitchen without a refrigerator. Also, the windows in some cabins have only a bug screen and curtains but no glass (which isn't really needed though, given the wonderful weather year-round).
