Russell's

The hotel was immaculate the bedroom Was very warm and a super comfortable bed. Lovely location right on the high street but very quiet rooms. Peaceful nights sleep. Friendly staff.

Not enough car park space

A nice, friendly hotel in a great location. Food at dinner was excellent (although over-priced). Staff were outstanding. Bed was comfortable.

The price for both accommodation and food was high for what it was. Surface cleanliness was good but behind bedside cabinets could have been much better (plugging in devices required moving them). The bathroom radiator was on full making the unventilated room like a sauna. There was no visible way to turn it down. Shampoo was up high which is no use if bathing, and no conditioner. Carpets on stairways were tired and badly marked.

The location is the only good thing.

Upon arrival got to the room which we requested to be made up as a twin room it wasn’t done, door handle to room was cello taped on and fell off while trying to lock the door which didn’t lock. Room was damp and smelt mouldy, stains on the carpet and holes in the walls also room was full of flies. For an apparent 5* hotel this establishment was shocking and very disappointing, we actually left and no refund has been given.

Very attractive property, well situated and inviting. Sectioned areas in restaurant for drinks and meals. Welcoming and attentive staff.

Observations rather than things we “don’t like” about Russell’s. Door handle to room was broken, mentioned on departure and was advised that it would be addressed in close down period as room in constant use - changing a handle is a reasonably short task. Cobwebs on room ceiling and dust on lamps, picture frames etc. Heating is via an electric air conditioning unit which is probably contributing to the dust. Aside from these very minor issues all staff were truly outstanding. We ate in restaurant both food and service were great first class. Would certainly recommend and will return.
