The Old Vicarage

I booked this stay as I needed a stop to work and rest on my way home, and was hoping for a nice, quiet, relaxing stay in this idilic setting based on the photos and the location. I am very disappointed though, and I am giving 4 stars generously as I understand the owners are facing some personal issues, but I have to share that the cleanliness was very poor, especially the bathroom. There was dark short hair everywhere, the bathtub was grubby that I did not feel safe to shower in, and the sink pedestal, the sink, the wc, were really dirty. Also, the area all around outside seemed a bit neglected. And on top of this, in the evening, there was a chimney or a camp fire on the property and the smoke entered my room, I could not sleep and felt I was suffocating - the window was an old style one with a lot of spacing and despite me proping pillows in it, the smoke came in... It was not a pleasant experience, and I left more tired than I arrived.

The old vicarage is a charming place, with friendly host. There is nice gardens / courtyard and driveway also. Our bedroom was cosy, the bed comfy and decoration nice. The location was perfect for us attending a wedding nearby.

The bathroom floor was under renovation, and untiled, so the bare concrete felt a little unclean underfoot and as a result the bathroom had a damp smell. We didn't cook in the shared kitchen space, but it looked like it required a good clean. The noise insulation between the room and shared kitchen area could be improved.

Comfy bed, good shower. Gerry gave us milk for our morning tea. Coffee machine was good. I probably didn't read the information properly and expected full English for the price. But we only stayed Saturday night and I know that is more expensive. Lovely garden and rabbits.

I would have liked breakfast to be included, in a lovely dining room. We didn't need the self catering facilities or the second bedroom but I can see they would be handy for some people.

The room was much more spacious than I expected and the bed was very comfortable. Good water pressure in the shower. Patricia, the host was really friendly. It was a lively relaxing place to stay.

I’ve stayed here before for Ford fair last yr I have returned for the simple reason it’s exactly what we want lovely hosts lovely rooms nice bathroom highly recommend we will be back ! The animals and bunnies and gunniea pigs and cats and dog are so cute and friendly really nice to see them !

Everything was spot on

What a lovely little find. 5 mins off the M1, but set in the grounds of an old vicarage and very quiet and tranquil. Lovely welcome from the owners, shown my room which was lovely and spotless. Shared kitchen area had everything, cooker, fridge, coffee machine… basically everything you need. You can use the garden area which had seating and tables which was lovely just to listen to the peace and quiet in the sunshine. Highly recommend this place for a quick stop off like myself, or a base to explore the local region. Very peaceful and quiet, set in the countryside.

Lovely clean, comfortable room in a beautiful location with very friendly and helpful hosts. Walking past the rabbits and guinea pigs was a cute, unexpected start to my mornings during my stay.

There was a shared kitchen between my room and another guests and unfortunately I was woken both mornings at 5.30am when they used the coffee machine and was woken again as they left around 45 mins later. However the bed and room was incredibly comfortable and it wouldn't stop me from booking again. I might just check with the hosts the best room option or take ear plugs as I'm a light sleeper.

We had a wonderful stay , they met us took us to our room. They were very informative regarding directions as we were there for F1. Breakfast was amazing, location was beautiful. Will definitely go back.
