Abams Gili Air

An honest review, we would not return. As a last minute booking, the place was nice and the rooms were fine but it wasn’t the nicest place we’ve stayed. The couch / seating space was nice as it felt like a little apartment but other than that there’s better options out there. The location was good for exploring the island, as you were pretty much central to lots of things, although you’ll need a bicycle which the hotel provides. Would be nice if this was included for free though, like other hotels do.

We had a cockroach in the room one day and this made us a bit uneasy. Although we appreciate this happens from time to time.

The staff was friendly.

The AC was not working. The Wi-fi did not work either. The room smelled good but it was not so cleaned. The water coming from the sink and shower smelled disgusting. There were spiders in the bathroom.

You get exactly what the price imply: the place is old-ish, relatively clean, located close to everything , but not in the center and not on the beach,

The guy who runs the property is incredibly nice and helpful. The beds and pillows are the best I've had at any homestay in Indonesia. You can rent a bike for just 35k per day from the property, and they have laundry service as well.

The main issue is the proximity to the central Mosque of Gili Air. I honestly have no idea how this didn't come up in reviews I read before renting, but literally every single morning of my trip right at 5:00 am and 6:00 am, I was woken up by extremely loud Islamic prayer over a megaphone. The 5:00 am prayer was in song and lasted for quite some time, at least ten minutes. The 6:00 am was spoken word and lasted probably just as long. Other people I met on the island didn't mention hearing anything. I hate to dissuade visitors from the property given the friendliness of the staff, but I genuinely couldn't imagine agreeing to stay there again knowing that I would certainly get woken up every morning at 5:00 am and again at 6. My A/C unit was also leaking immediately upon arrival. They did work to fix it, but it was a clear problem that could have been noticed prior to my arrival. Overall- I would definitely recommend paying just a slight bit more money and finding a nicer bungalow to stay in.
