Montmellick is a scruffy small town with nothing of interest. Summergrove House looks nothing like it does in the photo's, it's dirty, smells of damp and is very run down. You would not want to eat in the kitchen it was filthy. We could not believe the run down state of the building when we pulled up outside - when we went inside it was even worse. We were shown up to the bedroom by the owner James, I don't think he has any staff, it's just him, the room smelled of damp and just wasn't clean. My wife said "we can't stay here, I don't feel safe." I spoke to James and said unfortunately the hotel is not up to the standard you have advertised and we don't want to stay, he didn't look surprised and quickly said you will still have to pay. It cost us 300 euros to just drive away. It was 6.00pm and we had nowhere else to stay, but there was no way we were staying at that place, we drove into Dublin and found a hotel there. There was no one else staying at this place not surprisingly but if you look on the Booking.Com website it says only 1 room left at this price ! It's a rip off - DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL, you will be hugely disappointed. The telephone number you are given doesn't work - we suspected it has been cut off. We also believe the reviews are either from many years ago or false, there is no way anyone would score this place 9 / 10. It's a run down dump. He has electric gates so you can only escape if you pay !
