"We really enjoyed this different type of accommodation."

Very scenic location above Akaroa and in bush. The tiny house was in great condition and well supplied with what we needed. Nice to meet the owners Ken and Jenn.

Totara Hut was very peaceful and private. It was very clean and well stocked with treats. Some reviews commented on the narrow, steep road, but it wasn't bad at all. We've been on much steeper roads than that one.

"Perfect stay in a quiet location"

10.0

A fantastic rustic retreat with an amazing view of Akaroa town/harbor - the farmstead is being worked on and so expect wandering sheep / geese / the odd woodpile etc. It added to the ambience and natural feel of the place - exceptionally quiet, you are in the hills and it was a great place to wind down. Encountered a slight technical hitch at the start of the visit but Ken was on hand to fix the issue - he's a nice guy with a passion and vison for the place. We have stayed in many types of accommodation during our 6 weeks visiting New Zealand and this is one of our favorites. It is charmingly different but homely and if your into nature, the stars and quiet - definitely the place for you. Akaroa is not too far away and so Totara Hut feels in splendid isolation but has access to the amenities in the town,

Advisory - There is nothing there we didn't like but folks need to be minded the drive up to Totara Hut is in places up steep gravelly tracks. Care is needed and would suggest you don't take your sportscar - we hired a Mitsubishi Outlander, that vehicle handled the tracks easily.

"Lively to get such a gorgeous wee “home for two” at very short notice"

9.0

Brand new with a lot of thought put into furnishing this small space for two Serene location with a wonderful view

The road to get there - steep and narrow didn’t worry us too much but some people might find it more than challenging

"A very private and remote eco-conscious stay in pristinein pristine nature just minutes drive away from Akaroa Town Cent"

10.0

The remoteness of the property is simply amazing. Being pretty much by yourself in such a beautiful environment, surrounded by sights and sounds of nature, yet only around 7 minutes drive from Akaroa town center. There are some private walkways on the property through prime and pristine New Zealand landscapes, and you can easily link up to the Curry Track of the Purple Peak Curry Reserve. Also, lots of care has been taken to build, run, and maintain the property in an environmentally conscious and sustainable manner. The large bed is utterly comfortable, continental breakfast is provided (toast, butter, jams, fruit, yogurt, cereal, milk) as well as a kettle along with tea and coffee, a toaster, and a microwave. The wonderful deck has, besides a table and chairs, also two deck chairs and a gas barbecue, and the views all the way down onto Akaroa Harbour are fantastic all day round, boasting fantastic sunsets with the silhouette of the western mountain ridge of the Banks Peninsula as your end-of-day view.

There is nothing to dislike about this property.
