A beautiful original farm house preserved much as it was in the 50’s.. Airy and light..and the most adorable host in Elisabete.. caring and helpful .. Its intimate ..with exceptional vistas and the sound of the cock crowing in the stillness of the morning..Elisabete had family from London and Madrid staying with her and invited us to join them for dinner in a local taberna. We had the best sardines, tomato salad , grilled pepper and lamb cutlets for a few euros each..utterly uncomplicated and as authentic a Portuguese meal you could find anywhere. it was really good.

All was excellent.. just our bedroom a little on the small side for squeezing in when travelling with large suitcases.. but the rooms were original bedrooms .

we liked everything about Quinta do Fojo: the hosts were absolutely amazing, they treated us like family and at the same time gave us space. we went to a local restaurant with them, they provided us with great recommendations on the places we should see in the area. The 200 year old house is very authentic and also very comfortable, had absolutely every you may need. the views from the windows and terrace were breathtaking.

It is a 200 year old house so you can’t expect perfection but it could use some upgrading - paint etc.

Elisabete was the most wonderful host! She prepared an excellent breakfast spread each morning that my wife and I cannot stop raving about. Elisabete and her husband Manuel took us out to dinner at a fantastic local and non-touristy place on one night, and then helped us secure a dinner reservation at a nice restaurant on the subsequent night. She was even able to make a last-minute accommodation so that we could join one of her wine tours and tastings. Quinta do Fojo is a very well-maintained 200-year old property where we felt very comfortable and at-home. Not to mention the pool and wonderful views of the surrounding valley. We whole-heartedly recommend staying at Quinta do Fojo and rate it as perhaps the best part of our entire trip to Portugal!

Elisabete is an enthusiastic host, always looking after the well-being of her guests. During our 4-day stay we always felt like at home. Her place has a history of its own, the breakfasts offer a great variety of tasty home- or regional-made produces and her port wine tastings are fabulous. Thank you for your splendid hospitality! We will certainly choose her quinta again when we will revisit the Douro valley.
