Porta Amari B&B

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The staff was extremely kind and welcoming. We were greeted by Simona, who was incredibly friendly and made us feel at home right away. One of the highlights was having breakfast at BOSCO bar, just downstairs next to the building, thanks to the vouchers provided by the hotel. Another big plus was being able to leave our luggage at the hotel after check-out, which was a huge help as we had a late flight. Everything was well-organized, and the experience was smooth from start to finish. Highly recommend!

We arrived in Palermo early morning on the ferry from Naples and the host Antonio was able to get us into our room around 9.30am, which was wonderful. The B&B is well located for exploring the main sights of Palermo. A short stroll away is via Roma which leads via Centro Storico to the Central Station. There are lots of car hire places nearby if you plan to hire a car to tour Sicily or bikes for exploring the city. The WiFi is very fast - this was important for me as on this stay I had to give a lecture to students in three countries (UK, China and Malaysia). The balconies of rooms #1 and #2 and the common room are very nice for enjoying the sights of the harbour and piazza below, but pretty noisy too (Palermo is noisy period and this bothers some people, though I just take out my hearing aid - the shutters are really good for reducing noise too).

Great coffee capsules are provided for use in the coffee machine in the common room, but there is no electric kettle for boiling water to make tea or turn an expresso into an americano. The microwave just really does not cut it as a way to heat water.

A great B&B in Palermo. I’ve stayed three times, once with my wife and twice with my children and their partners when we took over the place. Its location is excellent if arriving or departing by ferry to elsewhere in Italy, a short stroll to the historic centre, and near a range of nice restaurants. Our host Antonio was fantastic arranging for a driver to collect the children from the airport and on the second stay after a week touring Sicily sending them back to the airport.

They guys were really responsible and they were giving us all the local contacts/ we did a boat tour ( not expensive one but with an amazing boat), we tried local wine and had a luxury car:) Highly recommended!

Location was good, although incredibly loud on a Saturday night.

It’s not clear in the listing, but the private bathroom is NOT in the room. It’s down the hall. So sure, you’re the only one with a key, but it’s not as easy as just getting up to pee in the middle of the night. Also, the blinds don’t block out the city lights. At all.
