Panchkote Raj Ganges

The Staff. Especially Ranjit who was exceedingly helpful with a genuine unfakable attitude of welcome and desire to be of assistance with a never-ending joyful and real smile! He also drove us around where we needed to! All the others, from the guard to the little helping hands, were also wonderful and made us feel absolutely welcome and at home, immediately attending to all our needs. It is a pity that we could not meet the owner of the hotel, Her Highness Ruchi, whom I have read from other reviews to be a wonderful host, but the quality of the staff proves to be a perfect reflection of the owner's excellent and real sense of what making you feel at home is all about!

This is a very cool place. It is a converted palace on one of the ghats. The rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable. There is a wonderful courtyard area where the meals are served which is very conducive to meet the other guests. The place is quiet which is likely unusual for a hotel in Varanasi. The hotel property has a wonderful view of the Ganges The owner set me up with a guide named Prassan which turned out to be a wonderful thing. I spent three days exploring the city with him.

For western travelers like myself keep in mind that this is not the Marriott. There is no tv (although they had great internet service), nor is there a 24 hour front desk.

Very friendly and helpful owners and staff. The location was perfect, it was quiet and there are lots of outdoor spaces to rest and relax. Our room was very comfortable and we had a big roof terrace with view of the Ganges.

The boat trip was not that good, we could not get near the main ghat for Arti. We didn’t know that credit cards are not accepted at the hotel so had to change money at last minute.

Private access to ghat is very dirty and is not maintained. Pity.

This was a great location, just behind busy streets in a quiet safe secure area by the river Ganges. You had access to a lovely garden and the room was comfortable.

Location is clearly perfect! Green and quiet! Between ghats and temples. Food was absolutely delicious with breakfast menu changed everyday. Dinners were excellent too (many restaurants in Varanasi will struggle to compete, even some famous ones). Lovely yard on which to relax and have breakfast, dinners.

Providing drinks during the day (Coffee, tea, soft drinks) could be nice to enjoy and relax in the yard or even on the terrasse if shade could be provided.

The only reason I haven’t scored a 10 was that the hotel doesn’t accept credit card as payment Therefore had to go to various ATM to withdraw cash Just be aware Not a big issue though
