Off the Beaten Track B&B

Secluded, quiet with amazing hosts and incredible access to the pristine Wakamarina river. The facilities are incredible; king size bed, generous sized bathroom with the most powerful shower, seperate dining room and a very well equipped kitchenette, books board games and wireless. Sarah and David (and their dogs cats horses and chickens) made us feel right at home and are happy to chat or give you your own space. The spa pool was perfect after a day fossicking on the river! Truly hard to fault anything.

David and Sarah had thought of all you can wish.. very special was the walk with David in the dank to the river to see the glowworms in nature..

David and Sarah are the most friendly hosts you could imagine, you can tell they really enjoy having guests! In the appartement we had a kitchen with multiple breakfast options and a well-equipped pantry which was really nice. I also enjoyed the books and puzzles they had available for us.

Hosts David and Sara were exceptional with great conversation. Kitchen stocked with all breakfast needs. Comfortable bed and large accommodation. If you want a farm experience you will not be disappointed.

I loved the location - such an interesting and beautiful area. Our hosts Sarah and David were superb- very friendly and informative, generous with their local knowledge, supply of treats (chocolates and lots of food including fresh eggs from their hens, home grown veggies etc), and went above and beyond to give us a wonderful experience of their special place, although in my opinion they really undersell the place. Our nocturnal adventure down to the river at the back of the property to see their very own glow worms is something we’ll never forget. We liked the special touches of NZ books, puzzles and games, also special stargazing binoculars- those stars! wow wow wow!! Also the bed - possibly the comfiest bed I’ve ever slept in. Our hosts let us use their huge washing machine and we got everything done. David told us about various local walks and we did part of the Wakamarina Track to Doom Creek. It was the most beautiful walk I’ve ever done - fantastic. it was through quite dense bush in places with lots of streams and waterfalls to cross - absolutely stunning. Our stay here has been a highlight of our trip

There are a few pesky sandflies about but bug repellent is provided and they’re not too bad at all- not like on the west coast. just cover up/use repellent if you tend to get bitten

Definitely one of the few hidden gems that you don't stumble across too often. We would recommend staying there for several days if you can as there is so much to do and see around the little farm as well in the whole region. Sarah and David are absolutely lovely hosts and we enjoyed having drinks and conversations with them. The Wakamarina River Gorge behind the house is just that: gorgeous. Perfect for a swim on a hot day and there are glow worms to be seen at night. Around the paddocks are some horses and ponies and two very friendly dogs to cuddle. We stayed there to explore the Marlborough Sounds and to have Green Lip Mussels in Havelock but the guest house is so spacious and well equipped with everything you could think of (interesting books, board games, a kitchenette and even food in the pantry) that just staying there and enjoying the place is time well spent.

There is the odd sandfly here and there but the hosts provide a repellent spray that really keeps them away.
