Villa Da Madalena

The room was big and spacious. The bed was comfortable. The shower was big also. Breakfast was average there was eggs and bacon but no vegetables. There was bread and yoghurt and some fruit. The hotel grounds are very beautiful.

Although no fault of the hotel I could not sleep well for 4 days. This was due to loud music that kept going through the night till 4 or 5 am. Unfortunately, there was some festival going on during the days I was staying there. It seems that there are no local laws regulating noise during the night. If I would visit Pico again I would definitely not stay here. My room was at ground floor and near the entrance so whoever came in or went out I would hear everything.

Breakfast can be improved: the bread was quite bad and, although we are used to eat salty stuff during the morning, few more delicious Portuguese sweets would have been appreciated (there were only packaged products)

The room is very large. The bed is comfortable and the view is priceless. Breakfast is salso great. They have A/C.

Great location, near to the center of Madalena, good starting point to explore the island. Super nice view towards the seaside. Supermarket is around the corner and there were always enough parking spaces in front of the building.

Uncomfortably hard and old beds where you could feel the springs, the building looks really nice and modern on the outside but the rooms are rather old. This alone would not be a problem but there was a lot of lime deposits and rust in the bathroom. Also, although we requested "room cleaning" by hanging a sign on the doorknob (which we were only informed by chance by a cleaning lady which was a bit strange) the bathroom did not seem to have been cleaned in the whole 4 days that we stayed except for the toilett. Also, the towels were never changed which would be fine if there had been some information about it (and also information on how to reuqest a fresh towel in case needed) but we were not even asked once if everything was fine or if we needed something. Once, the pillows were not on the bed after the room was cleaned but on the floor... New toilett paper was provided only after 3 days (before there was just one roll in the bathroom which definitely is not enough for 2 people for 3 days). There were also a lot of mosquitos (which is no ones fault) but there was no mosquito protection at all on the windows to prevent them from coming into the room. The breakfast was okayish but the staff was very unattentive if something went out or looked old. If you came after 9 am the food did not look very fresh anymore (eg scrambled eggs were not edible anymore as they were kept at 60 degrees, the ham and cheese looked old and too warm, once the cheese even tasted already a bit sour...). Given the price we payed and the rather fine reviews we expected higher standards and were a bit disappointed - but it is okay for a short stay of 2-3 days if you do not have high expectations.

Looks nice from the outside. We had a lovely view of Faial Island. Short walk into town and next to the supermarket.

The cleanliness was a big problem and the room was in need of a deep clean. There were mould patches over the bath, dried out damp patches in the room. The net curtains were dirty with splattered mosquitoes here and there and the balcony door didn't latch.

Brand new in appearance. Staff was excellent. Breakfast was very good with lots of choices. Extremely beautiful views. The villa is at the top of the hill. Very quiet as well. Even though every unit was full we only saw a few people at breakfast The villa has hotel like rooms in one building, the other building is completely furnished apartments with washer dryer and full kitchen, perfect for longer stays. The owner is very nice and chatted with us for a little in the evening. This property was well thought out and a pleasure to stay at
