With comments like “it’s hot so you don’t need the heater, use a blanket if you need it” and “a short tour of the vineyard “ (amongst other comments), we didn’t feel very welcome.

Our recent stay at Grey Ridge Vineyard offered both positives and areas for improvement. On our arrival, despite it being late, the hosts sue & Paul were very welcoming, which we appreciated. The accommodation, though part of the main house, was separate and private, which suited us fine initially. However, there were a few aspects that detracted from our experience. We were surprised by Sue's request to have breakfast at 8 AM and then even more surprised when she asked if we could check out by 9 AM, an hour earlier than the standard time, as she and Paul were planning on starting their long awaited staycation and had plans to start the day early. We declined having any breakfast as this was too early for us and agreed to try and be out by 9am, but upon reflection, this arrangement did not sit well with us. We felt pressured to accommodate the hosts' needs at the expense of our own comfort and holiday time, especially considering the full price we were still charged for what we expected to be a more leisurely stay. We acknowledge we should have said something at the time but we were put on the spot and were a bit too shocked. Additionally, the room was uncomfortably cold. While the hallway heater had been turned on, there was no heating in the bedrooms. Given how cold it was, it would have been considerate if the heating in the bedrooms had been arranged prior to our arrival. Unfortunately, we had to move a heater from the tea room into the second bedroom, as there was none there, which was less than ideal. While the setting at the winery is undoubtedly charming and the initial reception was friendly, these issues did mar our overall experience. For future guests, we hope that Grey Ridge prioritises guest comfort and clearly communicates any unusual expectations or requests well in advance.

Perfect spot to experience the vineyards of the Alexandra wine region. Paul and Sue are exceptional hosts and clearly love sharing their beautiful space. Private entry and area to relax both indoor and outdoors overlooking the fields of Pinot Noir vines, olive trees and mountains. Five star bedding for a restful nights sleep.

Sue & Paul are exceptional hosts, delightful to talk to! If you stay at Grey Ridge - highly recommend to make it in time for dinner or the tasting/ tour! The room was spotless clean, bed was very comfortable - we had a great night of sleep. The vineyard is absolutely beautiful with amazing views.

Excellent stay - no points to critique at all!

My mother and I try to be gluten-free and so a fresh fruit and nut platter would have been a treat with the coconut yoghurt that was provided. To top it off an option of eggs and some gluten-free bakery bread would have been fabulous - easily done because you can keep fresh bread in the freezer. Outside of this a top 10 experience for sure!

Beautiful property

Just about everything. It was a superb experience. We especially enjoyed the wine tasting and the tour of the vineyard. We learnt a lot about wine and vineyard management.

Sue and Paul were excellent hosts and the tour and tasting of the vineyard and wine were very informative and interesting. They put on an excellent dinner. Definitely well worth doing.
