Polan no Fue

This is my favourite place to stay. You will need a car and if you do, it is so worth it. The lodge is located in a beautiful area. It is quiet, comfortable and cosy. At night you can hear the owls and see the stars. The breakfast is clean, healthy and delicious. This is better than any five star hotel. There is even a private bath to soak in. The owner takes great pride in the place and prepares his meals with care and attention. I am so glad we stayed here for 4 nights. If we come to Aso again, I will not stay anywhere else.

We liked everything

Amazing place to stay. Had 2 huge rooms to ourselves and access to our own private onsen. Great access to hiking and close to Kurokawa onsen if you want to visit. The hosts were extremely friendly and helpful. And...the food - incredible! Do yourself a favor and have your meals there. We regretted not booking dinner for both nights we stayed. Would absolutely come back.

When we checked-in, the room was already warmed up for us and the electric blankets and carpet were on. The bathtub was filled with hot water, too. At night, you may enjoy the splendid starry skies outside the cabin. The generous portion of breakfast was really good. I was surprised that card payment was accepted here.

The downsides were the weak wifi signal, no humidifier in the room, and that the heater turned off automatically after 3 hours. It was so cold and so dry that I woke up around 3 a.m. to turn on the heater again.

Lovely cabin with two big rooms in a wooded location on a hillside. We would have been happy with only one room but the owner (who spoke English) thought that was too small! There was also a veranda to sit on but it was too cold in November. There was a sink and a toilet in both rooms. There was a private bath big enough for 2 in a cabin 10m away. The food was amazing. Really top notch cooking. Deserved a Michelin star! Don’t miss out on the food. I think it was 3,800 yen for dinner.

The dinner and breakfast were made by the host, you can taste the original Japanese style meal. We almost finished everything! Very delicious.
