Pheasant Lodge was all Tony. Tony is the owner, and he is a great character. He is warm, funny and a great storyteller. We brought wine and a dip with us, but he insisted on putting a full platter together for us and we didn't even use our dip. Tony offers a 2-course meal at night for a reasonable coar ( he needs notice of course) and when I told him over email that I don't eat steak, he drove all the way to Auckland to get me fish. He sat and ate dinner with us and entertained us with his life stories. He renovated the house and decorated it with antiques. If you want a place to stay within a few hours of Auckland, this is the place to stay, it is a great experience, and I would totally recommend it.

Tony was the perfect host….full of lively conversation & fascinating stories ….a real character The property is clean, quiet, comfortable & lovingly furnished Breakfast was cooked & delicious Would definitely stay here again Would highly recommend
