"Lovely Stay with stunning roof terrace view!"

10.0

We stayed at Sony Homestay for four nights. The host was very friendly and answered our many questions about life in Amed in a very friendly and detailed manner. We also went on a sunrise boat trip out to sea with him, where he told us about his life as a fisherman as we enjoyed the sunrise. The room is very bright and airy and has a beautiful view of the sea and the sunrise. The water is not hot but it’s also not really cold, it’s just the perfect temperature for a shower. The roof terrace with a view over the bay and the Agung volcano is the absolute highlight. We always enjoyed the delicious breakfast here in the morning and the sunset in the evening! All in all, absolutely top and reasonably priced! 5/5

"Harassed by Host"

1.0

I stayed here 8 nights. Room was comfortable, very nice view of mountain and sunsets from room and balcony. Located in quiet area but very close to restaurants and the ocean. Host’s wife brought breakfast to my balcony daily after I woke up and texted her. I went on private snorkeling tours with the host twice at a reasonable price. I was initially very comfortable here and host repeatedly assured me that he would help with whatever I wanted

My stay there was going well and I thought I would be writing a good review…But when we were leaving for the second snorkeling trip, the host asked for more money for fuel costs as the place he wanted to take me to was farther away. I didnt like that he didnt mention that earlier so I could have time to think about it. And then the male host sexually harassed me during my last day. He repeatedly touched and grabbed at me playfully like a teenage boy would when I was trying to enjoy snorkeling. He talked about how attractive my body was, that he really liked a dress I had worn and said I looked youthful for my age. He said that I probably get a lot of attention from males during my travels since I was so attractive. I told him I do not fool around with strangers hoping he would understand his efforts would not succeed and he would stop. His behavior was highly irritating and caused me to feel very uncomfortable. I expected to be free from such obnoxious predatory behavior from males by going on a private snorkeling tour with my host. I have travelled extensively overseas and have only had one other male host be similarly inappropriate. He also initially said he would not push for extras for income as others would. But he repeatedly wanted to drive me to various places and tried to grab my business from my trusted host in Sanur. Don’t know if he was wanting the extra income or more time with me alone.

"Perfect!"

10.0

I had an amazing stay ant Sony Homestay! It is run a by a very nice Balinese family. The bed was super comfortable (100times better than in any 200 euro European Hotel that I've ever stayed). My room had a huge terrace with views to the sea and Mount Agung. It was fresh during the night, I didn't even use the AC. The location is great, a couple of steps from the main road and the dive shops, but shielded from the light and noise from the town. I slept with open windows and open curtains looking at Mt. Agung from my bed while falling asleep. Super clean! (again 100 times cleaner than the Radisson and Hilton's that my company pays for work trips). The owner and his family were really nice and helpful with everything I needed. I ended up extending my stay there for several days and I learned a lot from them about the culture, politics and situation in Bali. I would definitely recommend staying there!
