Excellent room with good facilities and a very comfortable bed

The bed is not well positioned which means getting out in the middle of the night is difficult with one person next to a wall. Also watching television is difficult due to the position. Could also do with a good blackout blind as the light woke us up very early

Warm friendly welcome. The property is within easy distance from Durham centre, and shops easy to find and even though you generally seem to have to park on the road, that was not a problem at all. The room is well equipped with a fridge, toaster, kettle, tea, coffee and sugar, cutlery and plates, there was an ensuite shower/bathroom. You are able to use the lounge seating area just off of the kitchen which is a nice idea. The shower was good and powerful. You can help yourself to cereal or toast in the kitchen, it feels strange going through someone’s cupboards but that worked.

When we arrived at the property, we were kindly shown to our room. However, cleanliness is a must! The bed was comfy, but the smell of the bedding was awful, it smelled like the bedding has been washed and not dried properly, there were stains on the bottom sheet, where we assume they have been washed and the stains can no longer come out. Honestly, it’s time to replace the bottom sheet! The towels were exactly the same with the smell, So as soon as you got the towels wet from having a shower, you were just drying yourself with a smell that was awful, so it made our skin smell. This could be from tumble drying, or simply just not letting the bedding and towels dry properly, sometimes you cannot get this smell out and no matter how many times you wash it. An easy fix would be to replace the towels. The bedding that was the same, on the first night we hardly slept, because the pillows are very thin and uncomfortable, the pillowcases stank from this very strong smell. This is the only way that I know how to describe this. We did buy a towel, which we put across the pillows the second night and that helped us to sleep, we also then used that towel to dry ourselves the next day. Also there is just a Venetian blind at the window, so when the sun comes up between 4 and 430am you are woken up, it looks like a blind was put up and has perhaps fallen down. We would absolutely recommend that you put that blind back up or replace it, because it is so bright in the room. We did buy some face eye masks for the second night so that we weren’t woken up so early in the morning by the light. In the bathroom, I was looking for a hairdryer which I found under the sink, the cupboard under the sink is dirty, with stains, there was a used razor in there and other junk basically, this ideally should be cleaned out and made tidy after every visit, for your next guests.
