"Looking forward to returning"

Wonderful place to stay. Warm welcome, beautiful house, great food and very comfortable. Couldn't have asked for more and would definitely come back. Really enjoyed the local produce and the honesty bar is such a lovely way to do things. Full of little touches that made it special. Thank you Clare for being a brilliant host.

"A great shame , made a beeline for this place , then left being disappointed ."

It leaves me with a heavy heart leaving this review , as most was very good , apart from one thing that ruined the whole stay . Room was cold when we arrived , radiator seemed as if it was just turned on , no option to turn on towel warmer on so that was cold , so we assumed they just turned the heating on , so we waited till after the meal to check it again , this time the radiator was hot and room was slightly better , still no towel warmer , woke up cold at 2300 hrs, radiator off and the outside temperature was -4 degrees and it was cold all night , we where unable to shower in the morning as the bathroom was freezing , windows in the room had condensation and room was extremely cold , it was a extremely cold night , We mentioned this to Clare in the morning , she said the heating goes off at 2300 , and why did we not say anything , well we would not at 2300 at night , she said sorry but that is where it ended,

Overall , if you run a boutique style establishment in the Borders in winter why would you turn off the heating whilst guests are in residence , especially when temperatures got down to -4 and then ask they guests how was your stay , she could see we where cold and not happy , but still charged us for everything, even the water , no gesture of good will . With no option to control heating at all in the rooms , and to be at the mercy of the owners controlling the heating in a huge period building is not good. to have all the bells and whistles, nice rooms , great food and drink , then to let it all down by not caring for the customers complaints and comforts is beyond me , that is not hospitality . maybe the business of hospitality is not the romantic dream they thought it would be , I think that is more the case..
